“A great place to say”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 1 August 2014

We had the pleasure of staying with Sue at the Great Escape for a long weekend a couple of weeks ago and Sue is marvellous. Really welcoming, so helpful and her home is spotless, that's how it feels, like her home and she treats you as a friend as well as an honoured guest. I can't recommend this lovely little place highly enough. Very quiet, but still only about a ten minute walk to the beach. The rooms were lovely, really well decorated with nice modern fixtures and fittings and extra little touches in the bathrooms. Felt more like a small boutique hotel than a B & B. Thank you so much Sue, you were great and if we find ourselves down in Swanage again, we will definitely be staying with you. Thanks so much again from Carole and Jim and Maureen and Dan and lets not forget Teddy x

Room Tip: All rooms were lovely.

I had the pleasure of staying at A Great Escape Guest House at the end of May. I had to cancel a reservation here the previous year, but eventually got around to staying at this lovely little guest house. Sue, the owner met us at the door and couldn't have been more friendly, enthusiastic and accommodating. The rooms are decorated in fun, tasteful ways and everything was spotlessly clean. As others have said before me, the Dorset breakfast is plentiful and delicious. We had a great weekend here, the Dorset countryside is beautiful, and Swanage has a faded charm that will remind the most jaded adults of childhood seaside holidays. We look forward to returning.

We have just got back from staying in Swanage for 4 nights at this wonderful B & B.
We chose this one based on previous reviews on Trip Advisor and it definately lived up to the great praise it has received.
We were met by Sue who is very friendly and helpful, after explaining a few things she showed us to our room. Room 2 is light and tastefully decorated and overlooking the garden. We opted for the super king bed but this could also be changed to twins if required. Everything in the room was spotless as it is throughout the building.
If you think of every hotel room you have ever been in and all the things you wished were in there or ever needed then they were in this room. Sue has thought of everything; Fridge with fresh milk and filtered water, ample tea ,coffee, hot chocolate & sugar ,free safe, wine glasses, bottle opener, tea towel, kitchen roll, pen & note paper, hair dryer, iPhone dock, clock & torch. Then you go in the bathroom apart from the nice shower there are shower and hand gels, flannels, cotton wool/pads/buds, shampoo, body lotion, sewing kit, shower cap and shoe buff. PHEW !!! I’ve probably forgot something but I think you will get the idea.
In the evening when you get back in Sue leaves you a little treat in the small little chest in the hall, just another great little touch.
The breakfast was delicious, as well as fruit juice and cereals there is fresh fruit salad which I really enjoyed with yoghurt and granola. My husband had the full Dorset breakfast each morning I had a selection of this but there were also other choices. The ingredients are locally sourced and the toast made from homemade bread was a real treat.
It is all these touches which make Sue and attentive and proud owner.
We would love to visit again in the future at this well deserved No 1 rated Guest House.

We booked a short stay after reading the reviews, looking at the guest house's web site and the Android app. Plenty of good information on which to base our selection, and we were absolutely right in making this the place to stay for our visit.

Our expectations are always high (see our other reviews, including other experiences in the Swanage area), our research gave us the optimism that it would be good place to stay and by golly it certainly was - our expectations where greatly exceeded.

Read other reviews and you will have a feel for all the positives, I'm not going to repeat all those points. Let's just put it this way....we stayed for 3 lovely nights and could not find a single fault !

We had room 1 the balcony room, although we didn't use the balcony as we were out and about too much. Perfectly clean and comfortable, with loads of little necessities around like note pad, pens, torch, tissues, fridge, safe, toiletries...I'm a techie geek and wi-fi was good on all our phones and tablets.

It is quite obvious that Sue puts her heart in to her establishment and runs it perfectly. She is a charming host, a lovely lady, friendly and likeable.

Breakfasts were amazing, quality ingredients used, cooked and presented perfectly and plenty of it....left stuffed...and didn't need much at lunch-time. Sue even went out of her way to get skimmed milk in for my wife who can't stand creamy tea, then left the bottle for us to keep in our fridge and use throughout our stay.

Highly recommended, would we stay again? yes without a doubt, if we visited Swanage again

Booked at short notice, based on earlier reviews - we were not disappointed! Sue make us very welcome. Comfortable room on the top floor, en-suite compact but fine, fridge, milk and tea making facilities, comfy bed made for two good nights stay. Great breakfast with a varied menu. The full Dorset breakfast was enough not to want lunch! On street parking, found a space easily in the street. Close to the town, shops, eateries, beach and railway station. So the car stayed put. The mini-chest of drawers in the hall which held a small surprise for each room - we had two Kit-Kats on day one and some biscuits on day two - a nice touch. A very enjoyable stay.

We found room 3 spacious, spotless and comfortable with a large en suite. We slept well and enjoyed our stay. Breakfasts were excellent, with lots of choice. Sue makes you feel very welcome. There are no views but the (slightly dingy) street is quiet. The only drawback is perhaps the lack of a sitting room.

A few minutes’ level walk gets you to the town centre and sea front, with transport connections and plenty of eating options. The Poole bus stops nearby, so ‘A Great Escape’ would be a good choice if you’re travelling by public transport.

Sue made us most welcome and our room very comfortable. We really appreciated the silent fridge with the fresh milk and the chilled water. The breakfast was superb with lots of choice and a delicious fresh fruit salad.
