As part of our School's Coast Project, we joined Mark and Tommo from Cumulus Outdoors for a day to experience Coasteering and Rock Climbing/Abseiling with a group of school children (age 7 to 12). We were drawn to the company by their professional and informative website and were further encouraged by their prompt and courteous communication and by their willingness to cater for the young children in our group. On arrival, we were fitted with our equipment quickly and then made our way to Dancing Ledge. After a clear safety briefing we plunged gratefully into the man-made pool - we were lucky to have picked a beautifully hot, sunny day - which provided a fun and exciting start for the children, some of whom were a little nervous. We then moved onto the jumps and, although all were encouraged to take part, it was made very clear that everyone should set their own goals and feel comfortable with what they were being asked to do. Indeed, once the jumps started increasing in height, some of our younger children decided to sit out and they were well looked after and given other routes to follow so didn't feel left out. As well as the jumps, we explored some caves and had great fun squeezing through small tunnels with the help of the wave movement. I have never known time to fly so quickly and we were having so much fun we could happily have carried on for another hour or two.
The rock climbing and abseiling was equally well organised with 2 stations set up for our 13 children. Great care was taken in setting up the equipment and ensuring the children were fully briefed with safety instructions. Encouragement was given to those who were nervous and all achieved some level of success.
We thoroughly enjoyed our day and would recommend this company highly to other school groups or families seeking 'safe' adventure. I'm off to persuade our Head that we would benefit from some 'Staff Training' with Cumulus Outdoors!
