I ate here twice over a 3 day period. The meals were quick, easy and cheap.
Yes, the drinks are from cans, yes the stairs are slippery (they are warning marked as such). Service was polite and with a smile, portions were large enough to keep me filled :)

This was a return visit after an excellent experience a year ago. Service was good once again, considering how busy they were, the choice was excellent and the meal was substantial and very hot. Will be back again next Folk Festival!!

We visited Swanage this weekend (13-16th September) and fancied fish & chips, as it was raining we decided to eat in the restaurant. We ate upstairs, 2 of our party had cod & chips, 1 had place & chips and 1 just had chips (being a Veggie). Service was quick, the waitress was polite and attended to our every need.
The batter was the lightest batter I've tasted for a long time, it had the perfect crispness, not too thick not too thin. The fish-both-was lovely and white and tasted fresh like fish should. (Fish and chips is my all time favourite dish, I eat it even in the most swankiest of restaurants believe me, this will take some beating!)
Whilst eating our dinner I decided to check out the reviews on here, I was really shocked that such a lovely place could receive such harsh reviews, yes the decor is a bit dated and the carpet wasn't spotlessly clean but what do u expect in a seaside town that has god knows what walked into it hundreds times a day at peak season? The only thing I can fault it on is the warm beer, which was a real shame, particularly as it was not busy so there was no need for it to be warm!
Me personally thought overall The Parade was to a very good standard and the quality of food far outweighs its minor flaws! We would definitely go back!!

Having visited many years ago and greatly enjoyed it, we visited the Parade twice this year, on Sept 10 and Sept 12. Went upstairs the first time and it was no better than OK. Thought we would give it a second chance. This time we sat downstairs and it was worse.

First the food. The fish was poorly cooked, with a greasy bottom to the batter, and the chips were mediocre. On our second visit the fish was greasier than before and the chips no better.
Fish and chips is a classic English dish. It is not as easy to prepare as one might think but some folks manage to do it properly!

Second, service and ambience. On the first visit the service was acceptable and the upstairs room had a pleasant view of the front and sea.
As for the second visit..............
It appeared that the staff had forgotten all about the downstairs customers in their eagerness to rise above us, as they cruised up and down the stairs without casting a glance in our direction. We had a view of the kitchen, where the cook plied his lackadaisical trade amid near-deafening rock music. Within minutes of our arrival, as other customers finished, the tables were covered in plates, cutlery and other detritus which none of the staff made any attempt to remove until we had almost finished our meal. It took a while to get served, and although the staff were well-intentioned they simply did not have what it takes. They were utterly blind to the chaotic state of the tables and seemed to have no idea about being bright and serviceable to the customers. There was an odd feeling about the place that no-one was actually in charge.
The Parade has sadly declined from its former excellence, and if any member of its management reads this I strongly suggest they think about the gap between their claims and their performance and do something about staff training.

We always try to eat here when in Swanage, but they are a victim of their own success and often we can't get in. The place is basic (upstairs restaurant is far preferable to downstairs) but we are happy to put up with the often cramped, overfull conditions because the food is so good and such good value for money! Service is always good, too, even though the staff are so often rushed off their feet!
