“Awful experience”
Reviewed 4 January 2012

We visited here for a coffee and snacks. We were turned away from the restaurant and directed up a tight spiral staircase to a top floor where coffee and snackes were being served from a table in paper cups. No decent coffee and limited pastries - unappetising looking sausage rolls were all that was left late morning. Hygiene was dreadful. The tables were filthy and cramped and the floor carpet dirty. We did not stop.

thank you for taking the time to write your opinion on trip advisor, i would just like to address a couple of points.
yes! the belvedere suite you were directed to at lunchtime is completely unsuitable for the purpose we have to use it for, ie walkers with muddy boots and dog walkers wanting a coffee and pastry at lunchtime when the restaurant is serving lunch! we have bent over backwards to accommodate as many people as possible with considerable logistical restraints and i am proud of that. in the next few months a more suitable location will be made available for this kind of trade which will enable the restaurant to be just that, a restaurant.

kind regards and a happy new year.

“Restored Beyond Its Former Glory”
Reviewed 21 December 2011

Durlston Castle was a Victorian Tourist Attraction that charmed the crowds for many decades. The Castle later fell into disrepair, though the Cafe down below remained a magical retreat for walkers and visitors to the country park... especially during stormy weather! Now, after an ambitious redevelopment programme, the Cafe has moved once more upstairs to the main Castle building, and, it has to be said, become far more of a restaurant. The fixtures are modern, light, and airy, yet pleasantly congruent with the Castle. I was very taken with the art, and have appended some photos. But what of the food and the service? In a word, "Excellent!" A good day out has now become a great day out thanks to an imaginative menu, attentive staff, and a magnificent venue.

“Great food, great location”
Reviewed 8 December 2011

Went to look at the refurbished 'castle' and stopped for an unplanned light lunch. Only open a few days, so some of the staff a little unsure, but the Boss Man was everywhere trying to make sure everyone was happy and that all was going well. Food was excellent - the smoked salmon in my wife's sandwich would have fed two in most places.

Prices are a little high, but the qualithy is good, and the location wonderful. Roll on summer when we can use the outside tables.
