“Amazing and magic”
Review of Old Harry Rocks

Old Harry Rocks
Ranked #2 of 37 things to do in Swanage
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed 3 September 2013

We took a round trip from Poole going down to Swanage where we got off to spend some 2 hours there catching another boat that would take us further down along Old Harry Rocks to Dancing Ledge. On a nice day it is definitely worth going, the coast is picturesque, Old Harry Rocks photogenic particularly from the sea. Definitely worth seeing.

Hire a Kayak and see them from below. Geologically fascinating. Just wish I knew more about geology!

It's very windy there, however views are so amazing that its worth any effort. We left our car in Swanage and took long walk from there, but you also can stop in Studland and take a shorter walk from there. Depends what your capabilities are.

Park at Studland Middle Beach then walk back to the car park entrance and pick up the coastal path. One of the first things you'll come to is Henry's fort which are world war 2 constructions made as part of the training for the D-Day landings. Note the memorial alongside to the men who died during this training, which used live ammo to make it more realistic.

The walk to Old Harry is along the cliff top but for most of the way it's either through trees or alongside thick undergrowth so you can't see much of note until you actually come out onto the headland. There you can see the rocks and look back to lovely Studland bay. Walk higher and further up the headland and you'll get a much better view of Old Harry.
