We booked late only a week before we came for a long weekend. As a family we had not been to Dorset before and we thoroughly enjoyed our time here. The kids enjoyed the places visited, Swanage was a good base as it was central to access Durdle Door, Lulworth Cove, Studland and Corfe. The area is great and reasonably easy to navigate to, not many problems parking, food was mainly fish & chips but we also found alternatives. Our accommodation was in swanage bay view holiday park, on arrival we found our caravan wasnt actually what was discussed with the person when we booked. We specifically asked if the park had areas around the caravan for the kids to play, there was no chance of this as the caravans were on small plots. We also were informed that the caravan would be 14ft wide, ours was 12ft wide which to be fair didnt really matter but as with the central heating we were mis-informed when booking. We stayed in a brand new (platinum) caravan and it was nice, comfortable and with everything we needed in relation to cups, saucers, kitchen utensils etc. The main issue for us was the exterior area, what little space we had wasnt really safe for the kids, paving slabs lifted and not replaced, weeds and generally not what you would expect when you pay nearly £400 for three nights. The swimming was also very expensive at £17 for two adults and 4 kids, and the pool attendants seemed a little over-zealous with no balls or even jumping into the pool permitted. The health & safety police were well and truly on duty! The park and clubhouse were very clean though. In summary, we had a great time, i dont know we would return to this park but it does have its advantages, especially for those without kids.

We were very lucky with the weather and managed to take fantastic photos of the Bay and of the most picturesque coast without forgetting to mention the black headed gulls and herring gulls flirting, fighting, having a good time by the pier and along the beach. We had a very pleasant walk along the coast up to Durlston Park and would recommend it to everyone coming to visit Swanage

A very attractive bay with chalk headland and cliffs. Good walks in both directions. Peveril Point has interesting WW2 history.
I enjoyed walk behind houses and lifeboat station, and exhibition
under coastguard lookout.

Beautiful Swanage! Clean and safe Blue Flag beach, a thought provoking mural painted by local artists which represents the history of the town painted on a listed, derelict building in a prime seafront position, friendly and traditional pubs, fun filled arcades, good quality cafés serving an excellent selection of coffee, excellent choice of fish and chip shops – take your pick! A fun fair filled with the sound of kids having a good time in a safe and fun environment well out of the way of any danger but with an amazing view over the bay, plenty of cafés and bakeries to chill out in and watch the world go by. Gee Whites is getting a makeover this winter so closed in October and will be ready to wow customers again in the summer with its brand new, purpose built restaurant and dining area. A wide array of shops selling everything from key rings and kiss me quick hats to high end art, chocolate and jewellery. Follow traffic restrictions and you won’t have a single problem finding somewhere to park in Swanage, even in peak season.
Overall Swanage and its amazing bay is utterly beautiful, reassuringly traditional and with a simply awe-inspiring landscape should be on every travel ‘bucket list’. I guess your outlook on life shapes what you see, beauty is all around us, and some just have to look harder for it.

Scruffy Swanage, seaweed strewn beach, graffiti covered derelict buildings in prime seafront position, downmarket pubs, npenny arcades outdated cafés, fish and chip bars x2 next to each other, a funfair spoiling the views, nothing resembling a cafe culture. excellent fish bar on quay but housed in a shed which is subject to wind and rain and closes down after October and masses of cheap souvenir shops, selling utter rubbish, Rick Stein please come and show them how it's done. Beware camper van owners they will give you a £70 parking fine for parking on Shore road, just for being a camper van. Swanage needs someone with inspiration to transform this eyesore into the beauty spot it once was!
