“If You Like Wildlife - This Is The Place”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 12 October 2011

We have visited Durlston Country Park on numerous occasions.

If you have any interest in Coastal Walking this is good place to start from. If you like wildlife and the countryside you will love it here

The ongoing improvement works at Durlston Castle are a bit inconvenient at present but they do not detract from a beautiful location. On this visit we watched a small sand lizard on the wall alongside the busy path between the Globe and Anvil Point. Sea birds abound and plant life and insects are intriguing.

The Visitor Centre has a small snack bar serving tea and well a stocked country book sales area. If you see something on your walk that you do not recognise the staff here are friendly and knowledgeable.

The walk to Worth Matravers offers extensive views and the chance to visit "The Square & Compasses". There are ample walks including short strolls. We have regujlarly seen deer whilst walking here.

Don't miss it.

“country walking”

Unfortunately Durlston Castle was closed for improvement work, this meant a large area of the walks were unavailable.

“A nice walk on a beautiful day...”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 22 September 2011

We went in Sept 2011, shame the castle was closed as I was looking forward to a cream tea after our walk. The lighthouse is a good sight just a shame there is massive wall round it and private property meaning no access. The caves are also closed, I understand due to safety and so was the quarry. It's a shame they can't spend some money on these attractions and make them safe as the globe isn't that exciting.

Lovely walk on a nice day!

“Pity about the renovations”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 10 August 2011

I am sure all will be fine when the renovation work is finished, in the mean time you are made to walk a long way to see for example 'The Globe'. Surely they could put in a temporary path to make access easier

“Beautiful views”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 5 June 2008

There are many scenic walks at Durlston, with very beautiful sea views. Often you will also see many varieties of sea and land birds, butterflies, and other wildlife. With some good binoculars you may see dolphins, especially in spring and early summer. The Durlston Visitor centre has a lot of very good information about the park and wildlife, and there are regular guided walks and events for both adults and children. Parking is very expensive so you might prefer to walk there from Swanage town centre (30 - 40 minutes walk).
