The location provides lovely views across to the Isle of Wight - The Needles white cliff provide a wonderful change of colours if the weather is good and the sky is clear at sunset. The hotel does not look great on first external appearance but you are soon greeted by the friendly staff and guided to your room. We had a room at the opposite side to the sea but this gave pleasant views of the hills and a wonderful sunset.
The room was quite ok and the bath / shower functioned perfectly.
We decided to eat at the restaurant and were impressed by the quality of food achieved. Again the waiting staff are eager to please.
This was a short break to give the wife a few days away and we left vowing to come back again. Well done 'The Pines' - not cheap but we can't wait to go back again.
PS don't forget to go on the steam train from Swanage to Corfe Castle and beyond

This is a very pleasant hotel with great sea views. We stayed here for one night. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The food was good and the atmosphere restful. parts of the hotel were in need of refurbishment but this did not spoil our night away.

Room Tip: We did not have a sea view room as we booked late. There is no extra cost for a sea view room so do...

We were upgraded to a seaview/balcony room and what a delight! Big beautiful room with a fabulous view over the bay. A tall ship festooned with soft lights anchored overnight in the water
- a real treat. This hotel is set high on the hill with a dramatic cliff on one side and a sweeping view down to the seafront on the other (a bit tacky as they always are). Just a 10 minute walk down the hill leads to lots of little streets, small pubs and good ships and walking round the harbour. A quiet sanctuary. Swanage was a great surprise package. The trattoria just up from the seafront (green & red Italian decor) had delicious fresh Italian pizzas etc. Lovely people too.

I and my boyfriend stayed at the hotel for one night and they charged us £144 pounds for a room.
The hotel is very old, the breakfast poor quality and the room as well. If you don't find any availability in the most common websites try to contact the local farm or B&B. Everything was fully booked from the website but driving with the car we found a lot of places with availability

Had no idea what this hotel would be like as found it via Booking.com but the views on trip advisor looked okay. Was only staying here one night on road trip around SW England with Lady John. Had tried unsuccessfully to find somewhere to stay in Studland so this was second choice.

Was given a room that overlooked Swanage Bay although had not asked for a room with a sea view so for that reason alone it gets my seal of approval!

General decor could perhaps do with an update but otherwise okay, like previous reviewer I was disappointed to find that there was no direct access to the beach and also that the gate leading out on to the coastal path was locked on the 2 occasions I would have like to use it, due I understand to a dispute with neighbours!

Good breakfast!

I would recommend staying here.

We stayed here on the 6th June 2014 for a couple of nights. The weather was beautiful which made the stay even better.

We had the seaview/balcony. The superior room was clean and spacious with a double bed and twin beds. Perfect for a family. Very relaxing and quiet. We did struggle to find the room on first arrival, all the room numbers were a little spread out down little corridors.

With a 20 minute walk into swanage it's in the perfect location, staff were efficient and very friendly

To make it even better dogs were allowed, just a little awkward at breakfast since they aren't allowed in the dining area. We would have liked to have breakfast out side, but didn't want to ask since the tables were all set up.

we would certainly come back again.

Room Tip: the superior sea room is perfect for a family.

Great location. Great value. Old school (i.e. you have to order your cornflakes and orange juice at breakfast from you pre-assigned table).

Everyone polite, friendly, reminded me of bank holiday weekends in the late seventies as a treat from our usual family camping holidays. Free wifi though so they have moved with the times.

We will go again.

Boden points: 7: for the retro kitsch that SW Londoners (i.e. non-Crouch Enders) can cope with, good value and lovely views.

Room Tip: The 'mountain view' includes a free view of th ecar park, but it is small.
