We visited Chestnuts during our stay in Alfriston last summer. The owners made us feel welcome, and the coffee and drinks plus pastries were excellent. In fact we enjoyed this tea room so much that we went back the other day to visit Chestnuts once more.

We stayed overnight at 'Chestnuts' after a beautiful walk from Eastbourne with our two children.
The welcome was warm and friendly despite the tea rooms being quite busy.
We had anticipated going in to the village to eat for an evening meal but were very glad when we saw we could eat at 'Chestnuts'.
The menu was a bit limited for main meals, however what we did have was delicious. Three of us had Shepherds pie and it was to die for!
The beds were all comfy and the rooms were clean and decorated well.
Breakfast the following morning was well cooked and also very tasty. There was a wide selection of choice for us all.
The main point we were extremely happy with was the choice of gluten free food for our daughter. There were cakes, mains and even bread for toast in the morning. We also felt confident that these weren't coming in to contact with food containing wheat in the kitchen. We even took a packed lunch away with us for her with wheat free sandwiches and a caramel slice!
We would recommended
'Chestnuts' wholeheartedly to anyone wishing to stay in Alfriston. It was a very short stay but certainly a tiny jewel in the beautiful village.

We stopped here for a cuppa and a slice of cake and Chesnuts was perfect, lovely, quaint tea rooms, home made cakes and great service. All you need from a tea room. Give it a try.

My friend and I, hiking the South Downs Trail, were very tired when we got here. We are vegans, Chestnuts gave us a lovely vegan soup for supper followed by delicious vegan scones (there was 20% discount as we were guests) The room was clean (as was the bathroom) and very comfortable. Breakfast was expansive as well as delicious and they were very happy to cater to us with things like soy yogurt and non-meat sausages. This place is a complete bargain and a pleasure to stay at.
