I took a friend for a drive in the country outside Brighton today and decided to stop in Alfriston to look around the village. After looking around the shops in this charming village and visiting the impressive church we decided to look around for a cream tea. We found Chestnuts up on the high street and not having been before took a chance that at least the tea would refresh us. Well it did and they had an impressive selection of cakes that looked homemade and on a cake rack just as you walk in was a freshly made batch of scones still hot (as I would find out) from the oven. I have had cream teas all over this country and even as far away as Australia and Hong Kong but I have NEVER tasted scones like this-they were not only delicious but the lightest I have ever come across and the cream was thick and tasty served with raspberry jam-first rate! 10/10 Highly recommended!
