Alfriston is beautiful village with quaint old buildings housing interesting shops and pubs. It has a wonderful old church and a priest house which was, we believe, the first National Trust property in England. Chestnuts fits snuggly into this memorable cameo of an English village. Colour drenched hanging baskets overflowing with summer flowers welcome us through the door into the tiny tea room. As always a warm welcome from the owners and then we face the challenge of choosing from the very interesting menu knowing that everything here is home made. Delicious quiches, fresh salads and soups at lunchtime, and for later on cream teas, homemade scones and wonderful cakes. Chestnuts is surely an English tea room at its very best.
