Characterful pub with good pub food at reasonable prices. Will go again when we next visit Alfriston.

Very nice inn found in the square at alfriston. Dry large pub with a number of small cosy areas including the bar at the front with large fireplace. The pub is worth a visit and there is a lovely quiet garden at the rear. Food is available with a range of dishes. Beer we had was from the old man brewery and was excellent except for the price £4.50 a pint but worth it for a one off visit after a days walking. Just to the left excellent convenience store highly recommend the spicy beef pasties best ever we went back for another!

I made a booking at the Smugglers Inne telling them an approximate time of my arrival, and received a booking confirmation message.

We arrived at 22.30 and found a closed dwelling, I rang the door bell and knocked on the door and got no reply.
I rang the phone number on their website and got an automated message saying "This mail box is full, goodbye"

BEWARE, if you may be arriving late you can not depend on anyone being at the inn when you arrive. Best book somewhere else just in case so that you do not find yourself in the same situation we did with nowhere to stay after having made a 6 hour drive through France and a 4 hour ferry trip only to find the place in unresponsive darkness in the middle of nowhere on a Sunday at 22.30.
Best save your money and sanity and go elsewhere just in case they go shut and go home early

We stopped for a drink after a 7.5 mile walk. A great pint of beer. But a charge of £1.50 for a pint of fresh lime soda shows greed is alive and well in Alfriston.

Lovely quaint village pub near Eastbourne. The food was excellent, in particular the beef curry. Dogs welcome.
