Description: Welcome to our historic tea house! Alfriston was granted its market charter in 1406, and the house at Badgers dates from 1510 – over 500 years old! We know it was the village bakery for 200 years until 1933, and proprietor Michael Luttig and manager Lynn Attfield continue the tradition of exceptional baking on the premises. “Dissenters” from St Andrews Church met here in the late 18th Century until they built their own independent church (now the United Reformed Church) in 1801. We even have a Standing Stone in the pavement outside the front door…

Tea is served in Silver pot and beautiful China! Scones are fabulous, and the carrot cake is to die for....

“Scrumptious afternoon tea”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 29 April 2014

Fantastic little find for afternoon tea following a walk to the Long Man. Beautifully served home made scones and tea in an old bakery surrounding. Well worth a visit!

“Sunday Morning Visit for Tea & Cake!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 28 April 2014

The photo group I belong to from Essex, were on a day out and rather took over the dainty tearoom on Sunday morning all 15 of us, it was so pretty, we would have sat outside (had the weather been nicer) as it was just as pretty & relaxed with lovely outdoor furniture and climbing plants. I ordered tea with carrot cake & hubby had coffee with a scone & jam, it was all beautifully presented with silver teapot, milk jug & hot water jug, and china cups, saucers & plates, hubby's scone came in a basket, it was lovely, the staff were very gracious and didn't bat an eyelid on being descended on as soon as they opened by us all, and then quickly followed by other regulars and/or visitors to the area.

“Beautiful afternoon tea”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 23 April 2014 via mobile

We stopped at Badgers last week for afternoon tea. It was a beautiful day so we sat outside. We ordered afternoon tea which arrived in a beautiful silver tea pot glistening in the sunlight. We enjoyed the dainty sandwiches, cream tea and cake. Both the lemon cake and the Vitoria sandwich was moist light and moorish.... Though we were completely full up. The staff were welcoming and friendly. I wish they were a little closer so we could pop in every week. We will definitely go back there.

“A New Find”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 18 April 2014

Enjoyed a lovey Good Friday walk over to Alfriston , our usual coffee stop had no vacant tables so tried " Badgers" for the first time and were very pleasantly surprised .
We sat in the pretty sheltered garden as we had our Labrador Rosie with us. The service was good and the coffee and toasted hot cross buns tasted great. We will definitely return for something more substantial next time, along with Rosie no doubt !
