“Really good food”

We ate here while staying at the hotel. Service was good, food was excellent, I recommend the beef. Wine was a little pricy but that was good too

“Great food, massive portions!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 5 June 2012

We stayed at the hotel that houses this restaurant as part of a Groupon deal which included dinner, bed and breakfast.

We were nicely greeted and shown to our table in the restaurant which was very pleasant looking. It was quite formal but still friendly. There was water on the table and we were offered bread. After ordering, we were given a pre starter of wild mushroom soup which was a nice touch.

There is a huge choice on the menu - meat, fish and a separate dedicated vegetarian and vegan menu.

For starters we had the ham croquettes with quails egg and a pea and mint mousse with little dots of really amazing flavoured tomato-y sauce reduction thing. It was very tasty.

For mains we had the roast cod with butternut squash and the chicken breast with braised little gem. Both main courses were really well cooked and very tasty. The portions really are gigantic though so neither of us finished everything.

For dessert we had the raspberry sorbet and the floating island with salted caramel ice cream and praline. Again, taste wise they were delicious but the portions were ENORMOUS! Three massive scoops of sorbet and two big portions of the floating island meringue on the plate. It would have been substantial at half the size!

Overall, I can't think of a critical thing to say. The staff were so friendly and helpful and the chefs cooked up some great food.

“Excellent customer service”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 1 May 2012

We walked in at 9:15 on a Sunday night in the hope the kitchen had not closed like the other establishments we had visited in Alfriston. We received an excellent meal and great customer service from the staff. I am very happy to recommend Deans Place.

“Excellent Restaurant”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 19 April 2012

Dinner is taken in the traditional, well furnished and nicely decorated dining room at the rear of the hotel, overlooking the Sussex countryside. The dinner started well with an "amuse bouche" of butternut squash soup, whilst the menu had a wide choice of fish, meat and poultry both for starters and the main course where they were served with a good choice of accompanying vegetables, all nicely cooked, well presented and served by efficient friendly staff. The selection of desserts was excellent catering for all tastes and produced by the highly skilled kitchen team to look most inviting. There was a well chosen wine list all at very reasonable prices.
