“Beautiful restoration”

Well worth a wander around for an hour and gorgeous gardens. The old part of the house is particularly stunning.

“Beautiful Gardens”
Reviewed 30 July 2014

I've been a NT member for almost twenty years now, but this weekend I paid my first visit to the first property the trust visited. Its a small house which is incredibly pretty, although there is little inside apart from the shell, which gives visitors the opportunity to see what a dwelling such as this would have been like to live in. The gardens are the real star of the show however - absolutely stunning to wander around and for a few moments you can pretend the garden is all yours!

“National Trust first purchased property”
Reviewed 28 July 2014

The house is fascinating if small, gardens are lovely. Unfortunately the volunteers were the over enthusiastic, over the top type so typical of some National Trust properties.

“Not much to see.”
Reviewed 7 July 2014

Only good value if you already belong to the National Trust!
Not much to see and the upstairs was closed. Gardens were only ok and not worth looking at if it's a cloudy or wet day. I would not recommend it for families and would think twice if I had to pay for entry.

“loved our visit”
Reviewed 2 July 2014

Having visited Alfriston several times we have seen the Clergy House from the outside but it has always been shut. This time we planned our visit for a time when the house would be open and I'm so glad we did. The entry price was very reasonable and the staff very friendly and helpful. After we looked in the rooms with the guide we then walked around again, looked at the photos and read the informative displays. After looking around the house we entered the beautifully informal garden where we were hit by the strong perfume of roses and honeysuckle. The only thing that stopped us from staying any longer was the lack of toilets which is also the only reason I didn't give it top rating in this review. Well worth a visit though!
