We stayed for one night at Deans Place in Alfriston. The hotel is set in pretty gardens and we had a very pleasant stay here for one night. Staff at reception is friendly (ask for a room with a view), rooms are fine.
The breakfast is exceptionally good. Great choice of cereals, different seeds, both dried fruit salad and fresh fruit. The bacon and sausages are of very good quality (farmhouse). One bit of advice, fried eggs have to be ordered at the beginning, which we were not told about.
I would stay here again if in the area (which is also close to Glyndebourne and Charleston House, of Bloomsbury group fame.

Room Tip: Some rooms look out on a blank wall, ask for a garden room view

Deans Place is a lovely hotel in a beautiful english village. It has lots of old world charm and lovely gardens. Would have liked to swim in the heated outdoor pool but we ran out of time. The staff are very friendly and helpfull. Overall a very enjoyable stay. A good place to stay if you are planning to walk part of the South Downs way.

We stayed at Deans Place for a couple of nights in August. We found it very good value for money, the room was a family room, so that our son could sleep in his cot in the other room. The hotel has a lovely green in front, which our little one loved to go up and down on, which was great to get him tired and have a good night sleep. Tea and scones were lovely, the room itself a bit small, but it's not a problem at all. Good bar area and decent restaurant, the staff were all very kind and helpful. Our camera monitor worked both at the bar and in the restaurant. The only negatives I'd say was the bathroom, as it smelled a bit, but I guess to be expected in old buildings, and the bar menu for children: it was only chips, burgers, fish fingers, pizza, no reasonably healthy options at all. Overall, I'd definitely go back again.

We haven't visited Deans Place for some time, but are so pleased we decided to call in yesterday for lunch. It hasn't lost any of it's charm, and when Alfriston is buzzing with tourists, it offers an attractive and secluded terrace, and a good selection of dishes available from the bar menu.
The food was good, and we were served by a delightful and attentive member of staff (Lewis?) Our food arrived promptly and we were sorry we had to leave after such a short stopover but we will definitely be back soon.

We got married at the Deans on 29th June 2013, had to write this review, the day could not have been any more special, the whole staff team were amazing and so attentive to every detail, its a shame Charlie was ill on the day, as she had been arranging it with us from January 13, she was missed but the rest of the team were faultless. My wife and I would recommend this hotel as a wedding venue a thousand times over, for venue, atmosphere, tranquility, staff, food, management and value for money. We were hoping to spend Christmas and New Year there, but we are leaving the UK for a year, but when we get back, one of the first places we will stay, will be the Deans Hotel. Thank you all for making our day as special as you did. Janine & Tina

At the start of our way along the South Downs Way we had to resort to booking a hotel as all the B&Bs were full - how lucky that turned out to be! We got our room at half price through booking.com and at £70 was a least £10 cheaper than any of the B&Bs we subsequently stayed in. Reception staff (rosanna?) was supremely helpful and we were delighted to be upgraded to an executive room. The open air swimming room was also a treat. The room was extremely spacious, the furnishings were all luxury and the bed was super kingsize. Breakfast was the usual buffet or you could also order from an a la carte menu.

Last week we spent a 4 night b, b & e/m break at Deans Place. It is easy to find on the edge of the lovely village of Alfriston. Lots of car parking. Reception, just inside the hotel, is staffed by friendly and efficient young ladies. The building is old and so there is no lift or air conditioning.
We stayed in Room 2, as we asked to up grade to a room with a view. The room overlooked the formal gardens to the front of the hotel but it was very small and rather cramped. The hotel provided a fan which was vital for sleep at night as it was a very warm spell.
The package we purchased included an evening meal of up to 3 courses. The dining room was large, formal but very attractive. The standards of service was very good and the food quality was excellent. There were additional charges for some starters, the scallops, and one main course, the fillet beef, but it was worth the additional fee. A good and affordable wine list.
The hotel has many lounges and there is no shortage of comfortable places to sit. The bar staff were very friendly and we liked the choice of beers. We were given samples of beer to choose one to our palette. A nice touch.
Outside there is a wide terrace with lots of tables and chairs which extend across the gardens. You play pitch and put or croquet. The weather was beautiful and we used the outside pool each day. The pool was clean and there were plenty of sun loungers and tables with parasols and chairs. There is no life guard on duty but this is made clear by the notices. Most times we had the entire pool to ourselves.
You can walk in to Alfriston village in less than 2 minutes. It has many tearooms, pubs, village store and a lovely unlocked old church. A very pleasant place to pass some time but very awkward for motorists as the road is exceedingly narrow.
We hope to return to Deans Place again, possibly in the winter. Next time we shall be asking for a larger room with a view. We can definitely recommend a stay in this hotel. Most people will not be disappointed.

Room Tip: If possible avoid the rooms facing the inner courtyard and Room 2 is fine for a single person but no...
