“Weekend away !!!”
Reviewed 2 January 2014

Arrived on a wet Friday afternoon to find a cosy bar, roaring log fire and a very warm welcome :-) Our weekend was off to a great start and just continued to get better.Excellent base for exploring Beachy Head,New Haven and Eastbourne.Alfriston is a beautiful village with plenty of inns/restaurants to chose from.We only ate breakfast in the hotel as we like to try different places for lunch and dinner but breakfast was outstanding, also the turndown service offered in the evening was most welcome.A great weekend break and we will certainly return.

Our family of 2 adults and 2 children spent two enjoyable nights at Deans Place to attend a wedding. I was late arriving the first evening and my wife ordered a veg burger by mistake which did not hit the sport. Our family room with two small fold beds added was a bit small for 4 but the room price was good.Charming hotel though - friendly and helpful staff, great breakfasts, comfortable large double bed, and the like. Could do with some stools at the nice bar. Adjacent Alfriston village is also charming. Great setting for a wedding or special getaway. We would go back.

Room Tip: Check out the room options.

Having had to stay at home over Christmas we decided to make a return visit to Deans Place for their "Twixmas" break and we were not disappointed. We love the log fires and from the moment we walked in we were made to feel welcome. The bar and restaurant staff cannot do enough to help and as usual we were served with really good food. My wife, who is vegetarian, is always given special attention to ensure she is happy with the menu. The meals are prepared and presented well. We never fail to leave the hotel without booking our next visit so we look forward to June when we return.

Room Tip: We prefer numbers 1 - 8 as they are smaller but quieter

Not much to say really other than this place never disappoints ... From the lovely reception staff, the guys behind the bar and everyone who works there, all smiley happy and wanting to make your stay a good one. A few days ago was our "Christmas Do" .. And we arrived early for a spot of cream tea in the village ... Deserted as everyone was last minute shopping so the place was ours ! The hotel was clean and tidy log fires were burning and the food was good .
So matters not what the occasion is I would really recommend this place for a decent relaxing time

Room Tip: Room No 1 was nice.

Me and my husband stayed here for the weekend 13th-15th december 2013, it was a lovely break. The rooms are little tired and in need of some tlc, but the staff and surroundings of this village more than compensate. The staff are warm and friendly and very helpful, the breakfasts are delicious and plentyful. The bar is such a cosy and comfortable retreat after a long walk and the bar staff are so chatty and friendly. The whole place is spotlessly clean, and chilldren and pets are welcomed. Over all a really lovely stay, cant wait to go back.

We stayed here for a long weekend, using the hotel as a base for some lovely walks. Our room was very comfortable and had every amenity we could have wished for. The bathroom was very compact but this is not something that worries us. We ate in the restaurant on one evening, very high quality food but a little over fussy for our tastes. We really do like to have plenty of greens with our dinner and when away for 3 nights end up with withdrawal symptoms! Breakfast were great, especially once you work out that you can just order the extra side dishes rather than eating from the buffet. We even had an excellent breakfast during a power cut after a big storm.
The hotel was a good base for walking, having direct access on to the South Downs Way and a bus service to Eastbourne so you can walk back along the South Downs Way and up the Cuckmere Valley.
The village centre is very pretty and only a few minutes walk away, with several good pubs and teashops.
We plan to visit again.

If you want to walk along the last stage of the South Downs Way (and you must, if you want to stretch your legs while getting a taste of the real Olde England), but refuse to spend your nights in a tent, you better find a hotel close to some of SDW's attractions. Dean's Place is in Alfriston, close to The Charleston Trust (summer house to the Bloomsbury Circle), the picturesque villages of Berwick and Wilmington and the amazing Seven Sisters National Park. Alfriston itself is not shabby at all, and Dean's Place has tons of English charm in its own right. The service was impeccable, breakfast was an embarrassment of riches and the rooms comfortable, warm and stylish. The best part? It is more in the economic side, at least for British standards. If you do not arrive driving, be sure to phone the hotel beforehand and ask for a taxi to pick you up at Berwick Station.

Room Tip: Request a room in the original, older part of the hotel, for added flavour and atmosphere.
