“NYE 2012 Stay”
Reviewed 2 January 2013 via mobile

Hotel in great location with clean funky rooms. Parking available in nearby NCP car park on Church street if hotel car park full (likely). Staff all very helpful. Pricing probably a little excessive for what's on offer however.

From the moment we walked in the design of this hotel stands out. It is funky and stylish. The room was very comfortable. I always appreciate when hotels provide simple things like a kettle and tea, iron and ironing board and hair dryer. Many good hotels often offer some of these but rarely all and MyHotel supplied all of these. Generally the hotem left the impression that everything was thought of and taken care of.

The location is perfect, right in the center with loads of bars and restaurants around. There is also a great bar and restaurant in the hotel itself. Didn't try the restaurant ourselves but the bar had some nice cocktails.

Loved our stay and definitely coming back!

I have stayed in Brighton on several occasions in a few hotels and Myhotel is up there with the best of them! Really quirky decor, funky space age rooms and nice on site bar. We stayed in a superior double room which was incredibly spacious.

Customer service was always friendly and efficient - check in & out was smooth and the hotel was overall very clean & well run. Breakfast was a buffet affair but nice with a good selection of food & coffee.

This is not your 'traditional' hotel - it tries to be different and offers a unique experience which i really enjoyed - I feel you do pay the extra for this. If you want something more main stream I wouldn't recommend - the open plan bathroom might not be for you! On a par with Hotel Du Van but completely different - definitely worth a visit!

We spent 2 nights here over the New Year & while it's not cheap, we were impressed with the quality of this hotel. I was particularly impressed by the drinks offer in the bar- for £30 upfront we got 2 glasses of sparking wine each and our choice of 3 cocktails from the menu- so 5 drinks per person. As the Porn Star Martinis are usually £11 each it felt like a reasonable deal- not the usual NYE rip-off. That said, the service was extremely slow but we were given free Drambruie shots & offered bar snacks by way of apology.

The staff were all really helpful & we were given a free upgrade to a superior room on check-in, which was great. The location is excellent too.

I wasn't so impressed with the bathroom- as others have noted, the toilet is just separated by a frosted door which doesn't offer much privacy, and sadly there's no bath. There's no on-site gym or swimming pool and you can't charge drinks from the coffee shop to your room, which is a bit disappointing. But the place is obviously set up for couples who want a romantic weekend away and it doesn't disappoint. It wouldn't really be family/friends appropriate due to the bathroom situation. It's very modern, totally spotless & the wifi is included. I personally might have chosen a more traditional, Regency era hotel while in Brighton, but Myhotel is trendy and fun.

We stayed at myhotel about four years ago, in a standard room; at that time, we found it very funky with lots of 'wow' factor, and my husband was very taken with it. If you've not stayed here, please beware that they don't go in for luxurious bathrooms. Instead, it is all a bit gimmicky on the shower room/toilet area front, and EXTREMELY open plan, so if you like your privacy, you'll either have to wait until your other half has left the room, or until you can go to the loo downstairs! However, if you're into this sort of arrangement, then it will suit you down to the ground.
I booked here again for my husband's fiftieth birthday - I'm not a fan, but, as I said, he really liked the whole concept before. I upgraded this time, to stay in the Heaven Studio, which sounded amazing in the description, and I really thought this would have even more of a 'wow' factor. Cost was £200 (without breakfasat).
The room is very attractive when you first walk in - it does have a lovely mural behind the bed and a curved low level workstation to echo the curves of the room, and the 'shell' shaped shower area next to the bed - but it's very cramped. There is a small entrance with a full length mirror, and a wardrobe, then you have to squeeze past a round table and two chairs (which I think must be the 'work station' in the description). The bed is king size, and comfortable, but is on a plinth with a protruding ledge all the way round, at just the right height to bang into your calf at the most painful spot. This ledge curves right out at the head of the bed so that it acts as a sort of bedside table, but you do have to be careful not to knock over your cup of tea/glass of wine (and not to fall over it in the middle of the night!)
The shower area curves round right next to the bed which adds to the overall crampedness of the room - you have to be careful opening the glass bathroom door, and sort of edge round between it and the bed in order to get in. The tiles in the bathroom are beautiful, and the basin and toilet very sleek. There are bathrobes provided, but (as often seems to be the case) these aren't generous and certainly weren't big enough to wrap properly round my six foot husband. There is no handle on the bathroom door - just a large circular hole so that you can pull the door open. Unfortunately, this large hole is at exactly the right height for whoever is sitting on the toilet to have a view of whoever is still sitting in bed reading the Sunday paper - and vice versa.
The shower is a sort of shell arrangement, and you walked round the curves to get into it. A nice design, apart from the shower head itself which is very narrow so that when you turn on the water you get a direct blast coming down onto your head. If you are wearing a shower cap, and don't want to get your hair wet because you had it blow dried that morning (just say!), it is impossible to wash at all unless you get yourself into a sort of limbo dancing position.
Nice mini bar - not sure about prices, as I don't know how much these things usually cost. Standard tea/coffee making facilities. Kettle....but it took us a good five minutes to locate a power socket. At first we thought it was just us being thick because it is such a space-agey hotel that we couldn't believe there wouldn't be banks and banks of sockets for ipads, laptops, phones, etc. But, there only seems to be one, very carefully hidden behind a curtain. You have to unplug a lamp in order to plug the kettle in. Or your laptop. Or the hairdrier. Or your phone. Or the iron. And so on. Most extraordinary. Also, ladies (sorry to be sexist), there is no mirror, apart from the full length one in the entrance way and the one in the bathroom (which was too high for me, anyway). So, basically, if you do want to dry your hair or use your straighteners in front of a mirror, you have to transport the full length mirror past the 'workstation' and prop it up in front of the mini bar, then unplug your phone/ipad/kettle in order to do this. Not ideal.
Also, please check the tea bag/coffee supplies when you first get into the room. We discovered too late that there were only three tea bags (!!) and had to ring down for more the next morning.

I did mention the lack of power sockets to the reception desk, but was told that it was not technically possible to install more. Mysterious.

There are a plus points, though - it is great fun when you first go into the hotel, the bar is beautiful, and it is all very different from the norm. Areas are looking a bit tired now, though, such as the carpet on the third floor which is looking grubby and stained.
The front desk staff are very efficient and polite.

We didn't eat here at all, or have drinks in the cocktail bar (although we did last time, and it is well worth treating yourself to a cocktail because it's such an experience!)

Bed was very comfortable.

My advice? Read through all the reviews, which should give you an idea, and if you like the idea of the funky, fun, hipness of this hotel, give it a go. But beware of splashing out on the higher priced rooms - as I said, we stayed in the standard room before, which was perfectly adequate.

Room Tip: Don't necessarily think that spending more money will get you a much better room - we found a st...

Having stayed at the My Hotel recently on business, i can only recommend staying somewhere else if you are in the area.

Aside from the fact that it is in a good location in the centre of town near the main restaurants, that is about its only good point.

Firstly the rooms, they are enough to turn your stomach, if you dont mind staying in electric pink hotel rooms or lime green and orange rooms then it will be up your street. If you prefer a more subtle and comforting hotel room then this will not be for you. It is the most distasteful hotel room i have stayed in, and the beds and far too soft to enjoy a good nights sleep.

Breakfast, is a help yourself buffet style affair. However this only includes a posh roll with egg spinach and bacon and pastries. Coffees and juice are included but for the price you pay i would expect more than this.

The main bar is very smart but again very over priced.

The hotel insists on taking full payment for your stay as soon as you walk through the door, what happend to pay on departure once you have been satisfied with the amenities. This smacks of arrogance and they certainly are not the quality of hotel which is deserving of this attitude.

No facilities to speak of, tv didnt work properly and all in all a very overpriced hotel. A nights stay in a standard double you can expect to pay near £125 for.

If you are in the area please stay at the Hilton Hotel on the seafront next to the Grand, much more pleasant hotel, full english breakfast. Complimentary use of the hotel gym, sauna and swimming pool and cheaper.
