Just returned from a stay at the AR. I honestly cant fault it. it's so beautifully designed and they made us feel very welcome.
great location 10 mins from station 2 mins from beach and 5 from shops
room was gorgeous and huge, wifi included, good shower, comfy bed, quiet and cute cocktail bar attached to the building.
More details and lots of pics on this link http://thewanderlusthasgotme.blogspot.co.uk/2014/07/the-artists-residence-brighton.html

I have a suspicious nature, so was expecting to find something wrong with the Artist Residence, but the good news is - I didn't. It was utterly charming and quirky and the staff were friendly and helpful.

Our room was on the second floor, looking right out over Regency Square and towards the wreck of the West Pier. There was an eclectic range of pictures in the room, including a large one of some bonking rabbits right over the bed - nice! The room was big and the bed....reasonably comfortable.

Downstairs the cocktails at the Cocktail Shack were superb and the breakfasts tasty, with well-chosen and cooked ingredients.

Any problems? Well, if you go up the wrong staircase and try to locate your second floor room, you have to plunge into darkness waving your arms around before the sensor locates you. Not good. And it is a bit noisy, worse in the really hot weather because you have to keep the windows open or expire from the heat.

Room Tip: Rooms facing Regency Square give you a great view but will be noisy. If that doesn't bother you then go for the first floor where you get the balcony.

Dear Oxheyian,

Thank you for writing us a review.

We are so please that you enjoyed your stay. Thank you for pointing out the lights take a lot of movement to come on, we will get our electrician to have a look at this. Due to our central location it can be a bit noisy in the summer, we are sorry if you were disturbed at all.

We hope to see you again in the future.

Best Regards

The pink door makes this splendid facility stand out amidst so much cream in Brighton. The view from the pink door out across Regency Square to the beach is only the start of many wonderful elements for Artist Residence.
Purpose of stay was with partner and small son (3) for 4 nights while in town for cricket. We had the downstairs small house with courtyard and man cave.
Perfect, functional and the Mogwai posters above the bed - delightful.
Everything works.
The hosts and staff are brilliant, warm and welcoming.
The food in choice and quality for breakfast is of exceptional quality.
Do not think, just do, allow yourself some time to enjoy the complete ambience of the AR.
Bonus - the most gorgeous, bespoke table tennis table ever seen.

OK the good bits first - staff are lovely, friendly and helpful, chilled our champagne for us and provided some glasses. Room was spacious and in general well decorated, bed large and comfortable. The food at breakfast was excellent, fresh juice and coffee and a nice cooked selection which is individually made for you.
We had a balcony room but you can't actually walk out onto the balcony, you have to bend double and 'climb' through the sash window. Maybe I've been to too many hotels in Europe where you get what you pay for but for £135 per night I wouldn't expect mould in the shower. More coasters would help protect the furniture which is spoiled by a lot of water marks from glasses and cups, just gives it a tatty feel.
A couple of things which are clearly not the hotels fault but you should keep in mind if you are a light sleeper - there is a lot of noise from the street, drunks and early morning bin men etc and the beautiful sea view is spoiled by the burnt out remains of the pier - the Council should spend some money and put the poor thing out of it's misery.
Although the quality of the food was excellent nothing is buffet style so even your cereal is brought to you and the general layout of the dining room gives it a bit of a youth hostel feel.
