“Loved It : amazing service”
Reviewed 27 August 2014

We stayed at the Artist Residence for 2 nights as part of our honeymoon.

Upon arrival, the staff brought a bottle of champagne and a slate with chocolate covered strawberries to us. What a lovely start to our honeymoon.

Room was small (as advised when booking) but bright, modern and very relaxing.

Free wifi, water and biscuits were a nice touch.

However, the real winner is the breakfast.....whoever came up with the name "mini-full English" needs their head examining because it is MASSIVE! It is also top-quality, absolutely gorgeous.

Location is also perfect, easy walking distance from all of Brighton's city centre attractions.

Only downside was that the lift was broken when we went, we were on the 4th floor. This did not affect us (as we are holding on to our youth), however, this would not have been suitable for anyone with walking difficulties. The lift was being repaired whilst we were there though, so I presume this is just a temporary thing.

The staff were fantastic and this quirky, arty hotel is a place where you could quite easily spend a relaxing break.

We stayed on the 3rd floor in a room described as tiny, they were right, however it was very clean and everything we needed was in the room. The view was looking out to the remains of the West Pier. The breakfast was superb and the staff couldn't have been more helpful, we were offered refills on our tea and coffee, nothing seemed to be too much trouble.
I would definitely stay here again in a larger room.

Room Tip: Room 9 is tiny and up several flights of stairs.

The lift still isn’t working so it is hump your baggage up and down steep narrow stairs in this tall and narrow Regency Building. Room 5 gives a good view over the square and to the ruins of the West Pier – plus the building site on the prom for some large tower due to open in 2106.
The building dates from Regency times and is part of a long terrace facing the sea. It felt a bit cramped.

I am one of those people who always walks the route to the fire exit when I am in a hotel. I felt a bit uncomfortable here. The Fire Exit notices were painted, not illuminated, and when I went through a door marked Fire Exit on my floor I went into a pitch black area. It took a few minutes for motion activated lights to come on so I could see where I was and find the next fire exit door. Whether these lights would work in a fire I don’t know.

The room decor is quirky – see photo- but we soon got used to it, the circular bed was more of a problem, especially trying to sit up in it. The bathroom was small but fully equipped and with a powerful shower and instant hot water. There was adequate storage space for a short stay but not for a long one.

There was free wi-fi but you had to log back in every time you returned to the hotel. The system did not recognise me as someone who had been there a few hours earlier.

Downstairs was the combined reception and breakfast room staffed by a variety of ever helpful young ladies. There was also a small cosy lounge with some board games and the Cocktail Shack which has a range of, mainly rum based, cocktails shaken by a well informed bar tender.

Breakfast was served at a variety of wooden tables reminiscent of school days. There was a choice of hot or cold courses, from traditional British to lighter bites, all cooked to order and served pleasantly.

Room Tip: Rooms of the front have great views

Just arrived home from our 'minimoon' in Brighton. The artist residence was fantastic from the moment we arrived straight from our wedding. they were so helpful with everything, supplying vases for our wedding flowers we brought with us and plates for our wedding cake to have on our balcony! Room 3 was small but perfect for what we wanted and had an amazing view! The location is perfect for shopping and seeing all the sights of Brighton. The breakfast was great and they supplied gluten free bread as well which was really appreciated. Would definitely stay again!

My husband and I had such a wonderful time staying at the AR. The room was petite! but had everything we needed and above all had an amazing view from the cute little balcony to West pier. The breakfast was delicious and set us up for the day along with the lovely coffee.
The staff were so friendly and helpful and made us feel really relaxed and nothing too much trouble-can't stop recommending AR to our friends!
Only shame was having to spend quite a lot of money on car parking overnight but I think that's just Brighton prices.

We spent one night here as a last minute booking. We had a compact double which had plenty of room for us and a lovely power shower with a corner seat. The staff were excellent and we loved the way you could walk through to the cocktail shack. We would book here next time!

Fantastic quirky hotel with fabulous cocktail bar. Stayed in one of the large double bedrooms at top of hotel (unfortunately lift was not working) so nice and quiet with a lovely view. Good location, five minutes walk from the hustle and bustle of Brighton and a minute from the beach. Really helpful staff who provided us with a map and recommended restaurants which turned out to be perfect! On return to the hotel that evening we had a drink at the bar which was excellent and the bar man could not have been more helpful and friendly. Breakfast was delicious with a good sized coffee to set us up for the day. Will stay again on our next visit.
