We ate at Drakes as a family celebration party of five in the summer. first the plus points:
The setting and atmosphere was excellent. We had the centre circular table which gave us plenty of room.
The service was first class, unobtrusive but helpful, efficient and friendly.
The wine was good, very good.
But oh dear, the food was awful.
It was a short menu, not a problem, I would much rather have a choice of a few dishes done well, than many done badly, but two of us had the veal which was tough and swimming in a sea of fat. My daughter couldn't eat hers, and to be fair, they didn't charge us for it. I struggled through mine.
Other people I have spoken to thoroughly enjoyed their visits so perhaps the chef was off that night or whatever, but it was a great disappointment to all of us, especially as everything apart from the food was so good.
