Description: Considered by many to be Brighton's best restaurant, backed up by its status as the highest scoring local dining room in the Good Food Guide, The Restaurant at Drakes is an elegantly stylish setting for any occasion. Subtle lighting casts moody shadows across exposed brickwork and rich colours throughout the intimate dining room while Drakes cocktail bar offers airy sea views and excellent cocktails. The kitchen team insist on the best of ingredients, fresh and seasonal, including fish bought daily from local fishing boats, to create the excellent, refined menu that has earned the restaurant two AA rosettes. A special place, unpretentious in its warm atmosphere, it's easy to see why The Restaurant at Drakes has such a reputation.

“Dissapointing”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 4 October 2013

We ate at Drakes as a family celebration party of five in the summer. first the plus points:
The setting and atmosphere was excellent. We had the centre circular table which gave us plenty of room.
The service was first class, unobtrusive but helpful, efficient and friendly.
The wine was good, very good.
But oh dear, the food was awful.
It was a short menu, not a problem, I would much rather have a choice of a few dishes done well, than many done badly, but two of us had the veal which was tough and swimming in a sea of fat. My daughter couldn't eat hers, and to be fair, they didn't charge us for it. I struggled through mine.
Other people I have spoken to thoroughly enjoyed their visits so perhaps the chef was off that night or whatever, but it was a great disappointment to all of us, especially as everything apart from the food was so good.

“EXCELLENT FOOD”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 22 September 2013

On our recent stay at Drakes Hotel my wife and I decided not to bother looking for a restaurant in Brighton and opted to dine at The Restaurant at Drakes. This turned out to be a good decision as the food was of a very high standard along with excellent service.
If you are in Brighton give this place a go.
Tip, try the Raspberry Soufflé.

“By some distance the best place for fine dining in Brighton”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 29 August 2013

Having just made that claim I should perhaps say that I've not been to Graze in Hove so cannot compare the two. I have, however, had two very fine meals at Drakes. Yes, it is a basement restaurant and there's no outside space but it's still a very light space and the staff and the food and wine more than make up for the location. Do ask the sommelier for advice - on our first visit he gave us a cracking recommendation. There's little point in mentioning particular dishes as the menu changes all the time - there's a real focus on seasonal food. In my experience though they vary from good to excellent.

“Really good...”

A nice quiet dinner in a lovely restaurant. The service was good and the food was also very good. Very cosy little restaurant. Only downside is that there are very few tables and it is a basement restaurant.

“Nearly excellent”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 26 July 2013

The staff were most welcoming. Yes as noted - it is a basement room - too bad there's no outside tables for those warm summer evenings. I decided on trying several of the appetizers. Each was good or very good though shy of great -- though I did really enjoy the aspic jelly dessert. Wine list is a lot of old world but one new world gem that was also great. Glad I went.
