“A bless poppet of a restaurant”
Reviewed 23 March 2013

Went for lunch, after 13 years of thinking "ooooh I must try there!!". Its really old fashioned but in a nice comforting way. The décor, the music, the table settings. Greeted by the owner, very sweet. The quick set lunches are all quite reasonable at about £6 each inc salad. But we went for a la carte. I must admit I was quite surprised at how pricey they were. £13 upwards, nearing the £18 mark for chicken. But I opted for pasta (£8.95ish) was quite nice. The wine (Portuguese Chardonnay was er Meh) Finished off with a home made trifle. (I know.....I havn't had one since me Nans house!) Very nice though. I said to my wife, there must be a good reason why the meat menu is so much, so next time we visit, we shall treat ourselves! Not bad. Worth a visit.

“Constant excellence”
Reviewed 6 March 2013

We have visited this restaurant on numerous ocassions and have never had a bad experience. The service is spot on, friendly and helpful but not over the top or 'gushy'. We have spent many special ocassions there and always come away happy. The food is lovely and the wine selection is varied. Would recommend if looking for a quiet romantic evening or a family outing. Definately go!

“Great food, unpretentious surroundings”
Reviewed 25 February 2013

This is a lovely little family-run restaurant that serves big portions of mediterranean food at extremely reasonable prices. Service is kindly and unpretentious: the 1970s surroundings and traditional Portuguese folk music on the sound system only add to the ambience. H

“Lovely, friendly local restaurant”
Reviewed 18 December 2012

We have just returned from an anniversary meal at this wonderfully friendly and welcoming local restaurant. It is well-known in the neighbourhood with retro 1970's decor and lovely Italian food with the Portuguese flavour from the owners. We enjoyed some beautiful Portuguese spirits after the meal. Food, especially the meat and fish, is always fresh and plentiful - the mussels, which we did not have today, have a deserved reputation as the best in Brighton and sauces are fresh and delicious. We have been visiting for over 30 years and it seems just to get better. Joseph greets us as old friends - as he treats every guest - service is friendly and careful and we are always pleased by his recommendations for different Portuguese wines. It isn't nouvelle cuisine but hearty and excellent with a lovely family welcome. There is no sense of being hurried to make room for the next diners, music stays in the background and one feels cared for.
