Description: JAMIE'S ITALIAN BRIGHTON A partnership between Jamie Oliver and his Italian mentor, chef Gennaro Contaldo, Jamie's Italian has won thousands of fans for its delicious and affordable food since launching their first restaurant in Oxford in May 2008. The Jamie's Italian menu is based on dishes you'd find people eating all over Italy, made with care but delivered without fuss. The family-friendly restaurants are all about serving up rustic, Italian food made using the best possible ingredients, plus fresh pasta that's made on-site every day, and an award-winning children's menu, too. The lovely Brighton restaurant is located on Black Lion Street, a stone's throw from the seafront, nestled within Brighton's famous Lanes. The rooftop terrace is a great spot to enjoy a drink and a bowl of our freshly made pasta or a burger after a trip to the beach, or relax in one of the cosy booths and watch the chefs at work in their beautiful open kitchen. There's something for everyone here, whatever the occasion - a quick bite with friends or a big family dinner - come in and soak up the atmosphere while you tuck into some delicious Italian food.

The tried and tested Jamie's Italian model is presented at his Brighton Restaurant that is located in a side street just a stones throw from Brighton Pier. The menu was very similar to my only other Jamie's experience in Canberra Australia. Good value and tasty food.

Dined on Friday 22 August with my partner. On arrival we waited at the host stand for near 5 minutes without being acknowledged, when we were finally greeted the server just said "follow me". She left menus on our table and just walked away. 15 minutes later she returned to see if we wanted drinks. The drinks were very pricey for what they were (275ml bottle of Italian lager and a small rosè) we then waited another 15 minutes to order our food. We were sat next to the starter kitchen part and we gained a better customer service experience from the chefs in there than our server. The plus side of the visit was the food, I had pizza and my partner a pasta dish. It was very nice and the wait for the food was not long. for the second half of our visit we had a different server for an unknown reason, however, the 2nd server we had was much more pleasant, she even smiled at us. Overall 3/5. Food was good, drinks a bit pricey, unsure if I would go back.

Our first visit and enjoyed it but would not hurry back. A nice buzzy and informal atmosphere but not good for a special occasion. Menu looked more promising than it turned out to be - the tuna starter I had was not particularly flavoursome and the pizza from the special board - pear and prosciutto had quite a strange flavour and was rather chewy. The best part was the chocolate brownie and salted caramel ice cream which was delicious. The service was efficient but not personal in any way.

Food was ok but can be found for half the price at various other restaurants only a stones throw away. Main gripe were the closeness of the tables & the amazing noise generated by the hen & stag nights that made up 90% of the clientele on the Friday evening we were in the restaurant.
