Sorry to say but what is stated on the website for THE GRAND is not what you get.
We had a deluxe sea view room with balcony, big room but at best can be described as crappy B&B, we asked to speak to the hotel manager and she did explain that the hotel was in need of a refurb and was getting one until the economy took a hit and they had done 4 rooms in total so far and the rest were on hold. We stated we were not staying and would check out so she moved us into one of the new rooms which were very nice (318) but still even though they had not long been done were not the best to say thay had spent £ 25k on each room and had already started to look tatty. The air conditioning did not go below 17 so we had to have all the windows open onto the balcony and were kept awake until 6 with all the shouting going on from the bars and clubs empting out and everyone walking down the sea front.
The restaurant was appalling and we sent each course back in the end we only paid for a bottle of white wine but all we wanted was a good meal which we had been told " the food was wonderful" NOT.
In the end we went to an Indian restaurant down The Lanes called Indian Summer which was wonderful.
In all a very poor hotel in very much need of a total refit and one I will not be going back to.

My husband and I stayed at The Grand for two nights on an excellent De Vere bed and breakfast deal for our wedding anniversary. All the staff were professional, welcoming and friendly, particularly the Head Doorman who made check in so easy by whisking our car away to the car park and the lady who made sure we had a conservatory table for breakfast each morning. Our room was beautifully refurbished with stylish furniture and a big, comfortable bed with luxurious linen and there were beautiful flower displays throughout the hotel. The breakfast was the best of any hotel we have stayed in. We understand the hotel was completely full, but the dishes were constantly replenished with high quality, well cooked items and the pastries and local apple juice were exceptional. It was also delightful to have a pianist in the bar each day.

Bad points are the cost of car parking, but this is true of Brighton in general and an hotel of this size is bound to need ongoing refurbishment. For example, some of the chairs in the bar need to be recovered or replaced and the bath was obviously old, but overall this is probably the best run hotel we have stayed at in recent years, with the most obliging personnel.

I used to work in in Brighton 15 year ago and stayed in most of the seafront hotels:he Metropole, the Bedford (now holiday inn) etc but never got to stay in the Grand. Maybe our hopes were high ?
Puplic areas and service are very good. Breakfast was good too and so were the staff.
Ive rated this hotel so poorly beacuse the rooms let in down so badly. We stayed in a room for £200 per night (room 310) and for that we got a room overlooking a wall which was very, very dated. from the fixtures and fittlings I would guess at late 80s- early 90s was the last time they were done. Chipped and worn furniture, vinyl flooring in the bathroom. worn brass fittings, frayed carpet, wired internet and a tv from the last century- not even widescreen let alone a flatscreen! It was also very dusty (headboard, desk etc) have they given up?
The room was also very, very hot. There was an "aircon" unit in the room but it just pumped out warm air and the window only opened an inch. we did complain about the aircon but was told they dont advertise it- so dont have to provide it!
We also thought a hotel of this size would have a pool, a spa, sauna etc (our local devere hotel has all thse things) nope- just a "mini" gym
we complained about our experience as we left. To be fair the lady we spoke to was very sympathetic and offered us an upgrade next time. until such time as the rooms are refurbished- there wont be a next time.

We booked a night as we were attending a wedding Rception and, despite only living 12 miles away, thought we'd like to sample this beautiful hotel. We pushed the boat out and booked a deluxe room with seaview and were delighted that not only did we have a view but also French doors and a balcony. The hotel is beautiful and the staff friendly and efficient. The downside - the decor & furniture to the room was very dated and was the same as hotels that I worked in during the 1980's, although the bathroom was lovely and had plenty of hot water. Drinks in tha bar were promptly served and, bizarrely, cheaper than the beach bar across the road! Breakfast was lovely and had a great choice. I have seen many reviews which all mention the price of parking - we checked the NCP website before arriving and found that the Regency Square car park (2 blocks west of the hotel) charges £12.50 for 24 hours, less than half the price the hotel charges. All in all, we would return.

Having stayed at many so called Five-Star hotels before, expectations were fairly high for a stay at Brighton's iconic Grand. Unfortunately expectations were far from met. I stayed in a Deluxe Sea View Room on the 6th floor. The room is befitting a travel lodge but charged at a rate of £220. Outdated furnishings, torn curtains, no flat screen tv instead an old boxy piece of garbage with the front panel missing. Light bulbs missing from lamps, no mini bar, balcony supplied with what can only be described as two flimsy plastic chairs you would store rotting behind your shed for the entire winter. No wifi only wired connection. Overall there is no feel of luxury whatsoever and the peace of mind that one presumes when booking a five star hotel. Do not believe the hype, the Grand is tired, outdated, tatty and circa 1970s. My recommendation, don't waste your time and money book yourself a room at Hotel Du Vin just around the corner, you will find everything you are looking for there.

Room Tip: Call Hotel Du Vin.

A grand old lady. Just what we expected. If you want old school service and faded luxury this is it. Lovely cocktails and good service. We'd return for sure.

This hotel certainly is grand! Everything was lovely and the staff were very professional. The only gripe I have is that the rooms were quite tired & dated and there was no parking available.
