“Amazing weekend break”
Reviewed 30 June 2013

We stayed at the just refurbished Grand for a night at the end of June. From the friendly welcome and perfect service at check-in (valet parking, our luggage taken up to the room, etc) to check-out the next morning we had a brilliant experience all round. Our room, 719, was very large and beautifully decorated with a sofa, two armchairs, a large flat-screen television, a massivy, comfy bed (must be super king size) and a nice bathroom. Bathrobes and plenty of towels, but a few little odds and sods were missing, perhaps as the room has literally just been finished? E.g. hotel information and stationary weren't there, and no slippers to go with the bathrobes. And a mini bar would have been nice, though the two bottles of water and the tea tray almost made up for it. Tiny details really.

Breakfast was spectacular - one of the best buffets I've seen. Full English plus a menu of made to order dishes like Eggs Benedict, fruits, juices, lots of different breads and pastries, cereal, jams, cold meats, cheese, waffles etc etc. And very good coffee. Also, Sunday breakfast was available till 11 am, which I like!

The only disappointment was that I could not get an appointment in the spa - I was desperate for a short massage - as it was fully booked on both days. I asked for an appointment on 9:30 on Saturday morning, so I assumed they'd have a few slots open for the weekend. But no - nothing at all. For a hotel that advertises its Spa so heavily, this isn't great. Perhaps a note that early booking is highly recommended would have made me sort out an appointment before I arrived... And there is no swimming pool or jacuzzi that I could have used instead.

All in all, we had a great time and I was less than keen on leaving the hotel on Sunday. Highly recommend this.

Room Tip: We were in room 719. Gorgeous and very big, but the windows on the 7th floor are much smaller than o...

Took my parents here for their 50 wedding anniversary lunch. Firstly the doors were open on a freezing cold day so it was unpleasant sitting in the lounge area, second was and overpriced and pretty poor Bloody Mary which I waited 20 minutes for, as the bar staff were too busy talking to each other. The catalogue of disappointment was topped off with a meal which was stone cold (cold plates, tepid meat). They took it away and brought it back after it had been in the microwave, which only managed to heat the plate through but not the food. So finally on a third attempt we got our main meal, by which point I was so over it. Then they had the gall to produce a bill with no adjustment for any of the situation, something an establishment of this order would normally do. After a word with the manager we got a 50% discount on the main course, but it was hard fought. As the taxi driver noted, taking us home: 'everyone says the food there is awful, the only thing grand about the hotel any more is the name'. I couldn't have put it better.

Just got back from a 2 night stay to celebrate our 36th anniversary. We had a sea view room which was amazing. Our room was very light and spacious and we loved it. We adore Brighton and visit when we can. Our hotel of choice is always The Grand as we know we will be well looked after. We ate in the restaurant on the first night and the food was fantastic. This was the first time since the restaurant was relaunched and we were very impressed with the service and product knowledge of the staff. In fact all the staff at the hotel were friendly but efficient. Nothing is to much trouble and they always have a smile. This is the reason why we love staying at The Grand Hotel.

First time stay at this hotel. First impressios were good; glamourous entrance, piano player, nice bar etc. We had a twin room which cost £170 a night and we stayed for 2 nights. With NCP parking this came to almost £400 so not cheap.

The good points; good size room, nice big beds and a good bathroom with raindrop shower over a bath.

The not so good; understandably this is an old hotel but the floors are quite bouncy and as you walk the wardrobe vibrated - nothing too major but when the room above you does a lot of walking at 2am it can get quite boring. The bathroom got very hot and steamy so not great extraction, also the toilet handle and seat didn't quite fit flush against the rear panel therefore the paint was chipping away. Finally the air con unit; we expected a remote control unit and couldn't find one. On our last morning I took a closer look and realised there was an On/Off switch located next to the unit (which actually looked like a circuit breaker)- this was the on/off! I turned the unit on and saw lots of dust come out so I guess other guests didn't use it or couldn't find the remote.

Our room had breakfast included. A few choices on the menu like eggs benedict and the usual buffet. 4 of us were staying and all had eggs benedict but only 2 were properly cooked. A friend also got an undercooked sausage. The service was good though.

To sum up I personally didn't think it was worth the rate especially when you really look around and notice the smaller things that are looking tired, not quite right etc. I wouldn't stay again unless they had a good rate.

Stayed at The iconic Grand Hotel for a 3 day busniess trip and I was not disappointed in any way. Having secured a marvellous sea facing room I was esconced in absolute comfort and luxury from my 4th floor aspect. The rooms really are sumptuous, with very large and comfortable beds, lots of wardrobe space, excellent bathroom / shower room, TV, writing desk and comfy chairs. All the staff were great - really polite and friendly and the choice for breakfast in the morning was vast!

As a building it really is quite beautiful inside and out, and internally, I believe it has undergone a substantial refurbishment recently. Some of the external window frames could do with a bit of a rub down and paint, but considering the wonderful experience that The Grand undoubtedly delivers, who cares? Obviously not at the budget end of the scale but for a splash of classy luxury, it most definitely comes out on top.

Room Tip: Demand a sea facing room!

This was a real surprise for us, our friends had booked it so we didn't know what to expect. The facade is not the most impressive but as soon as you cross the main doors you will be transported to a world of refinement and elegance. Our room was just amazing, very large and with a beautiful balcony over the sea. Details were taken care of, including an espresso machine in the room with a selection of coffee blends. The breakfast was included and the supplement to have it in the room was only £5, very reasonable! The one minor dissapointment was at the time of settling the bill, £2.50 for using credit cards, Seriously?! It gives the wrong impression, maybe worth reconsidering the policy, it's not about the 2 pounds. Otherwise, superb!

We stayed for a Friday night late June 2013 as we were going to a concert at the Brighton Centre next door.

Doormen and reception staff were all very friendly and helpful. We had arrived too early to check in to our room and we knew that but they still went through all the procedure so all we had to do after lunch was to pick up the key.

Room was standard but very good. Nice large room, very comfortable bed, sky TV, excellent bath/shower. Mini bar fridge was unstocked except for two complimentary bottles of water which suited us fine.

Breakfast on Saturday was not good at all. There were so many people trying to get breakfast that we had to sit in the huge room at the back making the trek for food long ! Wait staff were not properly organised so tea/coffee and the cooked to order food took an age to arrive. The hotel really must sort out its dining room arrangements at breakfast !!
