“Living off a reputation”
Reviewed 26 July 2014

Stayed here in July 2014. It seems like the Grand Hotel is living off it's name. It's an average enough hotel in a good location. The hotel had a good breakfast and the staff seemed helpful enough. The hotel needs to get into the 21st century. It seems a bit excessive charging well over £200 a night for a room with no air conditioning and a view of a brick wall, £30 a night for parking and £5 a pint and also allowing pet dogs in the hotel (not very grand). The interior looks tired and has large cracks on the walls. Was defiantly not worth the money.

I've been lucky enough to stay at The Grand on two different occasions, December 2012 and June 2014. The first time was for my sisters wedding which was absolutely amazing. The room was decorated exactly how required. The food was delightful. Our room was at the front overlooking the sea, which was stunning even though it was December. Our whole experience was perfect.

The second occasion was for my dads 80th birthday. We hired a room for the party, this was set out lovely and once again the food was delicious. Our room wasn't the best! It smelt musty and faced a brick wall so we had no natural light! We were not impressed, but we spoke to the girls on the front desk who found us another room opposite which was very clean, fresh and full of natural light. Breakfast was fantastic with loads to chose from.

With all it's history, views and grandness it's definitely worth staying there at least once in your life time.

Room Tip: Sea view rooms are the best but do come at a price I'm afraid.

We stayed here for one night recently and had an amazing time. From the moment we arrived and Colin approached us to offer valet parking to the moment we left, every single member of staff was friendly, helpful and professional.

We were in a Feature Seaview Deluxe Room and it was amazing. We had a huge balcony overlooking the seafront, a deep wooden bath right in the window as well as a massive walk-in shower with heated floor. The room was immaculate, well furnished and extremely comfortable. It included a Starbucks coffee machine as well as kettle, biscuits etc. Just standing on that balcony watching the world go by was memorable. The only thing that could have improved it would have been a table and chairs on the balcony.

We had champagne afternoon tea in the conservatory area and this was of a very good standard, maybe they could warm the scones in future though. The cakes were lovely and service excellent. We also had cocktails and these were very good and reasonably priced. Breakfast was buffet style with everything that you could want, all hot and of a very good quality. You can also have Bucks Fizz with breakfast, which we did.

After check-out they are happy to keep your bags and you can also leave your car with them until 3 o'clock, which is very convenient if you want to see a bit of Brighton as we did. This hotel is in the perfect location for all the sights, just a few minutes walk to the Royal Pavilion and the Lanes etc.

All in all, I could not fault this hotel, the service was impeccable and everything was very smoothly done. I would not stay anywhere else in Brighton now, we've definitely been spoilt.

Room Tip: We were in room 318, absolutely fabulous with huge balcony overlooking the seafront.

For £159 a night I didn't expect my room to face a brick wall with pigeons flapping around outside but there again for £1k I could have had the Presidential Suite!
Once outside the small dark room which had an extremely comfortable bed the facilities and location of the hotel are wonderful. The Hotel has a lot of history and a bar well stocked bar. Staff are polite and the Concierge are very helpful. To park a car is £30 a night, £25 if you do it yourself. I walked away spending just over £800 and would consider returning if I had a guaranteed room which didn't face a brick wall.....

Room Tip: Self parking saves £5. Book a front facing room if you want the view otherwise you will be disappoi...

I attended a two part networking meeting at The Grand Brighton earlier this week. The meeting was in the conservatory on one of the hottest days of the year so far. With all the blinds and shutters closed to block the glare and heat and with the doors open to encourage a through draft we managed. The venue is fabulous with sea views and a lovely set up in terms of flexibility in use of the room. The Grand is a lovely, prestigious venue and has recently become an independent hotel (not part of a chain or group). The Ladies Powder Room deserves a mention - gracious and spacious (an advantage of the big rooms in an old building). We had a great workshop in the morning and the hotel staff quickly turned the room around in half an hour flat for an afternoon tea - impressive. I found the staff we worked with were excellent in their responsiveness to requests for various things such as an extra table for the projector and more cold water, etc. I enjoyed my time there, thank you!!

Stayed for 2 nights 11th & 12th June 2014 - what a mistake. While the rooms are ok and the location perfect the rudeness of everyone of the staff on the front desk was astonishing. First they messed up my reservation without an apology, then they simply refused to help me locate a travel plug adaptor (I'm from Australia) and then they put me in a different room meaning we had to wait for our bags to be relocated. In contrast the staff in the bar and restaurant were perfectly fine. Hotels must realise first impressions are important - and it would be a good idea to put staff on the front desk who understand basic English. Not recommended.

Room Tip: Avoid the back of the hotel.

Well have to say that my wife booked this as a surprise and what an enjoyable one it was. We had a lovely room with very comfortable, king size bed and a nice sea view. The room was very comfortable and spacious with tea and coffee provided and a lovely bathroom with a very deep bath and 2 separate sinks and towelling robes provided. My wife had also booked us an aromatherapy massage in the hotel spa which was an amazing relaxing experience. Breakfast the following morning was great with a full range of cereals, fruit, toast, yoghurts, cheese, ham and usual English breakfast items as well as different fruit juices, tea and coffee. We hope to return to this hotel.
