“Nice place to stay but wouldn't say Grand!”
Reviewed 7 August 2014

We stayed here for three nights. We had to book via a third party as when we tried to book direct with the hotel they were only able to offer us two nights. Rather odd I thought!

The staff were welcoming and nothing was too much trouble.

Anyway, our double room was on the third floor and from our window we could just see the sea when sitting by the window. The room was of a good size and freshly decorated with a clean, modern feel. The en suite was clean and fresh too.

No air con but a fan was in the cupboard.

Breakfast was on all mornings rather disappointing.
The first morning we went down for 9.30am (breakfast is served until 10am but they don't turn you away even at 10.30) there were hardly any pastries left and plates, bowls were missing so you had to find a member of staff to fetch these from the kitchen. Then you found that perhaps there was bacon but no mushrooms or sausages, so whilst you stood and waited for that item to be brought out the bacon would have all gone and so again you would have to wait. Once back at your table I found the breakfast cold!!!! I did speak to the restaurant manager who reassured me this would be looked at, he apologised and did actually come back to us auto say the burners had gone out but this would be rectified for tomorrow. Sadly the 2nd morning was exactly the same, no pastries left, cooked buffet breakfast was cold and disappointing.
So on morning number 3 we decided to get up early to see if that made any difference! We arrived at 8am and yes there were plenty of pastries to chose from but sadly although there were plates and bowls and food in every dish it still wasn't that hot. Warm yes but certainly not hot!!!

With the lack of pastries, if you state breakfast is from say 7.30-10am then there should be enough for everyone whatever time you show up, but with the issue of the cooked breakfast, the temperatures need to be looked at better.

The bar/lounge is comfortable and again the staff are very helpful.

The location is superb and Brighton itself is a fantastic mix of people so love it!

We would stay here again but maybe miss the breakfast unless they can offer a freshly cooked breakfast instead of the buffet.

A midweek 2 night stay for pleasure. Staff very helpful. Had requested a sea view with balcony, didn't get one so needed to upgrade, £120. per night - already paid £300 for 2 nights. Rooms with a balcony are spacious & beautifully decorated, although no fridge & no air con so was very warm! Only had breakfast in the hotel which was a Buffett style - good selection but not good quality, sausages barely cooked, bacon the same & eggs hard & cold. Would recommend you choose from the additional menu.
To use the spa it's £35. Per day unless you pay for a treatment. Wanted to use the gym which is a small guest room converted as a very basic gym.
Location of this hotel is fab & Brighton was buzzing, wouldn't stay in this hotel again!

Room Tip: Balcony for the views

Wonderful classic hotel bubbling with old world charm. Paid £107 double room B and B couldn't fault it, breakfast was excellent. Concierge most helpful. Need to pay 10% extra on drinks brought to table in bar. Whistle stop trip, definitely will return.

Room Tip: If you can afford it pay extra for sea view room.

We stayed at The Grand for one night for our first wedding anniversary. We are regular visitors to Brighton and got engaged on the beach opposite the hotel so thought it was very fitting to stay here.
The rooms are pricey but we expected this (this is the only reason why we don't stay here every time). We checked in quickly, concierge was very attentive and helpful and parked our car for us. We had an upgraded room with a sea view because of the occasion and it was beautiful. Lovely balcony to enjoy looking out to sea and the weather was beautiful too. We had a bottle of wine in our room and were unsure as to whether this was standard or whether it was because we had told them it was our anniversary. Either way it was a nice touch.
Our stay was lovely, staff friendly, bedroom decorated beautifully, gorgeous view, comfy beds, good service and quality at breakfast.
All in all a lovely stay at the Grand. We would love to return but I'm not sure we will able to afford staying here all the time!

Room was average. The fans provided were just not helping! Our window was nailed up so we couldn't open them. Staff were friendly, breakfast was pretty good. Lifts are slow. Loved Brighton though! Perfect location.

Room Tip: Lifts are slow so try and get a first floor room!

Unfortunately our trip was ruined when we went to breakfast. We were sat down quickly and and in a spacious room. There was not a range of cooked breakfast left even though we turned up at 9:45. We had a very rude staff member called 'Ellie' who rolled her eyes when we asked for tea and then after around 15min of waiting for her to turn up again we asked her for some butter. But all she managed to get was already used butter from another table. Though all of the other breakfast staff were wonderful and eager to help.
Apart from Ellie being rude the stay was wonderful. The reception staff were very informative and wanting to help. The rooms were very spacious and had very good wi fi. There was a very nicley sized TV and facilities.
Not sure weather I would stay here a again.

I've stayed one night in this lovely property.

The building is nice and recently refurbished or well maintained.

I had a Single room on the 1st floor and it was cute and well arranged. Noisy as I could hear everybody passing by but ok as the hotel was not that busy I think! Pay attention as it could have cost them 2 stars in my review!

I also had a sandwich at the bar in the evening and the service and food was good!
Breakfast was good too!

Otherwise I haven't use the hotel much more but I can say that service is average to good.

Next time I visit Brighton I'll probably stay there.

Room Tip: As far as the stairs as possible
