I stayed at this hotel as a treat from a friend. On walking in the door I was stunned. It's beautiful, the rooms are lovely. Beds very comfortable and all hotel staff were very polite. Great location in Brighton too with an ncp car park on its door step. We had a sea view and it was lovely.

Very Pleasant hotel. Our Seaview room was a bit tired but large and nice enough. Comfy huge bed not so keen on the pillows. Good breakfast choice hot, cold and plenty of pastries and juices. Staff were very pleasent and most would say hello on passing.
Will stay here again.

The Grand is a wonderful building and has an impressive interior. Part of the pleasure of staying there was the atmosphere, including the live piano music in the foyer. The staff are helpful and friendly, including housekeeping. We enjoyed our breakfasts, fast service and plenty of choice. We also ate in the restaurant one night and had no complaints, although being a seafood restaurant the vegetarian option was limited. Our room was clean and comfortable with a large bathroom, rather strangely with a large window at the side of the bath/shower. There was both a fixed head shower over the bath and a hand held one which was good.

Parking is limited and we had to park at a nearby car park at a cost of £25 a night. We were told by the parking attendant that The Grand offered 25% off parking, but no-one at the hotel knew anything about this so perhaps it was wrong.

Unfortunately we also encountered several problems. We knew from reviews here that The Grand is not able to install air conditioning due to listed building regulations and that the rooms might be hot (we visited during a very hot week). We also knew we had had the last room in the "cheaper" price range (at £180 a night still the most expensive room we have ever had!). We were surprised to find a frosted window but soon realised it was because our room looked out over the "service area" of the hotel and blank walls (from what we could see from trying to look out in the two inches the window opened). We wouldn't even have minded this but the noise from the kitchen extractor fans/generators was really intolerable and went on all night. We were unable to have the window open so were really hot, and even then could still hear the noise. I can sleep through most noise but this was something over and above normal noise levels. We ended up wedging the bathroom window open with a newspaper (the only way to keep it open) but one night even that was intolerable and we hardly slept with the heat and the noise. We didn't say anything as we knew we had the last room so didn't see the point.

To add to this, although the room was clean, we couldn't say the same for the bedding and found several stains, including an incredibly dirty towel. On the last day when our key failed three times we finally told someone how unhappy we were and I only wish we had said something earlier because we were immediately offered another, better room for our last night, and the deputy manager also came to talk to us about the issues and we were very happy with the outcome of that talk. We felt our concerns were listened to and that they were genuinely sorry we had such a difficult time. We understand the towel problem was due to a change in laundry and was probably a one off. We would particularly like to thank Lauren who really was lovely when we told her all our woes!

So, all in all, we still loved staying at the Grand and I can only say that if anyone finds they are having problems to tell someone and, if our experience is anything to go by, they will do their very best to resolve this. I would suggest that if you can possibly afford it you book a sea view room, or at least check that you are not in a room near the kitchen, particularly in summer when you may want the window open.

Room Tip: Check that your room is not near the kitchen area and if you can manage it go for a sea view room.

We stayed here for one night a few weeks ago.We go to Brighton regularly as my son lives there. We have never before stayed in the Grand and Won't be Diogenes so again. We thought the room was ghastly, small, an awful view and poor considering it was £200 for the night.I complained and was moved to a much larger room but with a view of all the air conditioning condensers yuk.The room had no air conditioning and was ok.Considering this is 5stars we thought it was poor.Breakfast was good, but hard to find a table. We thought it poor value for money.Very disappointing

We booked a 2 night stay, at a cost of £380 which we thought was quite expensive but thought it would be a well appointed room. We were wrong. We were on the 4th floor and the corridor outside our room had terribly squeaky floorboards so we could hear every single person who walked past.

The sink in the bathroom had an enormous crack right across it, not what you expect from this standard of hotel.

The window in the bedroom was frosted so you couldn't even look out, again for the price of the room this was just not good enough. Also it being warm weather we had the window open but the constant drone from the air conditioning unit outside (I presume) was very noisy.

However the room was otherwise clean and the bed comfortable.

We did mention all the above to the staff and they did offer us a discount on our bill for which we were grateful. However the fact remains that the next person will be paying quite a high price for the same sub standard room.

The staff were helpful and the breakfasts were very good.

We stayed in a suite with a balcony. The room and views were wonderful. Starbucks coffee maker and high end audio visuals were welcome. We had room service both nights and at breakfast and they were great meals, eaten overlooking the sea. Service was very good and friendly, but not overdone. It wasn't cheap, but then I wasn't expecting or looking for cheap. Really didn't want to leave!
