Previously The Grand had been an expensive option for the weekend in Brighton, not know excelent deals to be found on the Devere website.Superb sea view room which had been recently updated.Real feel of luxury!
Breakfast was varied and with excellent service. We enquired as to a good local restraunt for the Saturday evening..recommendation was superb and they took care of the booking.Excellent service provided overall with extra mention for Sandra Flanagan who is a credit to the Hotel.
Will definately be returning.

My partner and I stayed in the hotel overnight having attended a ball there. I would agee that it is maybe a little old fashioned but that is part of its charm. The room we stayed in was fine apart from the bathroom tiles needed some attention they were grubby. We had a lovely evening and the breakfast was very good and the staff too. However I left my perfume behind in the room, I was not concerned as I knew exactly where it was, we contacted the hotel the next day. They said they would investigate, which they did and wrote to tell me that it had not been found and they had no explanation as to where it had gone.

We stayed at The Grand during the Brighton Festival at the beginning of May. We booked a special rate via the De Veres website which included a complimentary upgrade to a Sea View room and breakfast for £79 per room. Having read the reviews on TA before we travelled, our expectations were low. However, on arrival we were pleasantly surprised.. the view was great, overlooking the West Pier and beach, the room quite spacious and a very good sized bathroom. The furniture and room decor looked like it was borrowed from a retirement home, but the bar and reception area befit a 4-5 star hotel. However, we can't complain, the price we paid was great for what we got and the breakfast was probably the best hotel breakfast we have had anywhere! And we received two complimentary glasses of champagne as the barman forgot our order! Maybe it was our lucky weekend. We would definitely stay again... probably when the next deal is on!

Impressive Victorian architecture - but rooms in need of extensive upgrade and air conditioning in some.
Staff polite and anxious to please - except one night manager.
Irritating and unecessary surcharge of £2.50 for using standard credit cards - and do not take cheques.
First room offered on 6th floor - tiny, hot, no air con, frosted main window with no view out.
Breakfast extensive - but usual watery uncrisped bacon.
In need of extensive upgrade to justify name and rates.
Boutique hotels around the corner better overall value.

We stayed one night for a wedding reception. The room was too hot at night (no air conditioning) so had to open window. Noisy people on seafront, noisy seagulls in early morning meant sleepless night. Talked to an unsympathetic sarcastic duty manager the next day. She knows who she is! Will not be staying there again. This tired old hotel needs to be modernised internally.

Well, I must say that after reading some of the reviews on this website I was slightly anxious about our half term weekend stay at The Grand in Brighton. I had wanted to get away to the coast for a well deserved family weekend break for a while, and when we did arrive there on Friday 4th June, one of the hottest days of the year so far, I was not disappointed at all. As we pulled into the Grand, 2 or 3 concierge were ready and waiting to take our assortment of bags and cases; my 13 yr old son trying to grapple with his rucksack and other bags was told by a very friendly concierge 'you're at the Grand now, you don't carry your own bags here!' to the delight of my 13yr old who thought this was just fantastic. We were escorted through check-in and even though it was 4pm on a Friday afternoon with a busy function going on, we were made to feel like VIP's. There was a very friendly lady who was in reception making sure all new guests were being seen to, and she assured us if there was anything we needed or wanted to make our stay more pleasant or comfortable, we were only to ask. I was beginning to get used to the attention, and we hadn't even arrived at our room yet.......!
We had a sea view balcony room interconnecting with another double room for our 2 children. The room was enormous compared to any other hotel room I've ever stayed in, it was spotlessly clean and even though it looked a little tired and worn in places, the traditional furnishings complimented the character of what is a very beautiful and historic building. I chose to walk up and down the grand staircase every time rather than take the lift because it is such a beautiful feature of the hotel.
Our bed was huge and very comfy, and the children's room had a camp bed as well as a large double bed. Breakfast was a real treat, again the choice was vast, with a very attentive waiter bringing me my poached eggs made to order, even though we were one of the last to arrive for breakfast. The selection of food available is superb, the children were very well catered for too. Even though we have been to Brighton for the day many times, we had never spent an evening there, so we were delighted with the recommendation from a concierge for dinner. We wanted fish and chips as we were by the sea, and he booked us a table at the Regency. Haddock and chips all round, followed by a walk along the sea front and ice creams - a perfect end to our first day.
When we got back to our rooms, my husband and I decided to finish the evening with a glass of wine on the balcony, and within minutes we had an ice bucket and 2 glasses.
We literally sat and watched the sun set over the sea, the children playing on their computer games, and we felt like a pair of teenagers! We really needed this break as a family, and I really feel like the Grand exceeded my expectations. I definitely feel that we got good value for money, and we were made to feel that nothing was too much to ask.
The service was second to none, the guys on the concierge desk were very helpful with suggestions of things to do with the children, and places to go to eat. We had a very positive experience at the Grand, and we are now saving up to go again in October half term, this has become our family getaway.

We stayed at The Grand for a two night break. My husband found a good deal by accident on the De Vere web site. The deal was half price so we saved about £200.If we had paid full wack I have been very depressed indeed!
Our room (sea view)was a good size but the bathroom was tiny. The carpet in the room had seen better days and should have been replaced. It was dirty and stained. The bathroom ,as well as being tiny, needed painting.
The welcome was O.K. and the chap who took our luggage to our room was polite and helpfully The receptionist couldn't have cared less.
We decided not to eat dinner in the hotel but we had a drink at the bar.
It was all so tired and half hearted.More training for the staff and an update of the hotel is desperatly needed.
At breakfast we noticed the chairs were so old that one guest had to request a chair that wasn't broken.(I must say the breakfast waitress was lovely and so polite.)The duty manageress agreed the the hotel needed new chairs!!!!
We found two restaurants where we had dinner each night in The Lanes near by.The menu for the Kings restaurant (hotel)was basic.
The hotel needs a huge make over and as I said early had we paid "top dollar"for our stay I would have felt we would have been ripped off.
