Me and my friend book 2 nights at this hotel and recieved a confirmation that this was paid for in full. When we arrived (at 10.30 at night) we were told that no, actually only one night had been paid and that we had to pay for the second one right then and there. the manager was called and he was absoloutly vile! we were obviously rather upset about this and not only did he refuse to call the booking agents, he also threatend to call police and said to us, 2 young girl, "Do you wanna stay here or not?!".
The then said if we didnt pay the money would be taken out of the receptionist's wages and that they were already paid minimum wages.!!!!
I have never in my life been spoken to in that manner!
Horrible!
The hotel is dirty and runned down and the bath didnt work.
The one star is for a brilliant view and a very young receptionist who looked terrorfied but still tried to help!! DO NOT STAY HERE!!

Room Tip: Book another hotel!

Having read previous reviews, I was dreading staying here, but, we were pleasantly suprised, our room was clean and spacious, we were right at the top of the hotel, and the lift was a bit slow on getting to you but that depended on when you were going out, as there was only one. The staff were helpful and the hotel was child friendly, breakfast had a good variety(buffet style). we spoke to other guests and their opnion differed to mine, so I guess it is a bit hit and miss, it is a busy hotel due to its great location and sees all sorts of people so it is a bit shabby in places, They do offer a discount coupon on parking at a NCP car park at North Lane, and you can park out the front of the hotel for free between 6pm and 9am, if you can get a space. If I was going to Brighton again I would probably stay here again.

After using this hotel for a second time, I was rather disappointed at how different this stay was!! we were a group of 4 staying in 2 different rooms, one of the rooms hadn't been vacuumed in what looked like months judging by the clearly visible dust under the beds, around the leather chairs and by the bin. There was a window that had fallen off the frame left on top of the wardrobe as well!! Windows remaining couldn't be opened as that were welded shut with paint and dust! A request was put in writing in the room to be vacuumed and wasn't carried out so we called reception who said they would send someone but nobody arrived.
Back in the other room and although this one was a lot cleaner, the whole floor was plagued with the smell of damp from a leaking roof along the corridor.
So other than where the hotel is based, there is nothing else going for it. No hotel entertainment, basic food and pretty shoddy service. Stay at your own risk!

Absolutely TERRIBLE! The hotel itself probably used to be grand but is now old and stuffy. The decor is well dated and so is the atmosphere. When I stayed there I was given a room with a terrible bed and no air-con - the room only had one window which was on the internal side of the hotel, but because the view was on DIRT (and i mean PROPER mouldy dirt and we saw soemthing move!), we couldn't keep the window open to let some fresh air in. We thought we were being too fussy (although we were being charged £105 so not exactly cheap), so we went for a nap. The air recircle was so bad in the room we both woke up wheezing, at which point we decided to check out. After almost having to argue with the manager, we managed to get a full refund. A NIGHTMARE! The only positive side of this hotel was the reception staff that, even though didn't speak perfect english, were REALLY nice and helpful! Otherwise, 8 hrs of pure hell! Horrible!

Don't even think about it!! - Booked two nights, arrived to find twin bedded room as booked not available. Long wait to resolve problem, finally given two separate room in basement, where there was a serioous smell of mould, or ?, or ?, Carpet was filthy, walls were scuffed, no pictures, AND, NO WINDOW, and NO FAN!!! This is in breach of Health and Safety and License Regulations. Moved next day to 1st floor room, said to be 'with seaview and outside space'. The windows were so fillthy couldn't see outside, and the so-called outside space (imlying a balcony or similar) was all of about 12" wide. - A case for Trade Descriptions I think. Management did not think to check the following day, and then, going to pay before departure.found we had been charged the FULL AMOUNT, with no concession.
In mitigation, beds were comfortable, the linen fresh.

Just returned from a week at Royal Albion. If you have any mobility problems at all, this hotel is not for you. On arrival, we were left to drag our luggage up the five steps at the front door, through a crowd of young people, smoking and drinking as there was a wedding on. We could not use the lounge that evening as it was taken over by the wedding party.
We had to ask for assistance to get our cases up to our room. The only lift is tiny, holds five people, without cases, and the queue was horrendous as we were a coach party of about forty people, many disabled. One woman was in an electric buggy which almost took the lift to itself. There is no toilet on the ground floor, which is where the dining room, bar and lounge are situated. The nearest toilet is down a steep flight of stairs to the basement, or the lift, if you could get in, to floor -1, then a lonely walk through a series of corridors. We used to end up going up to our room for the toilet, and more often than not, staying in for the evening. The food was passable, nice breakfast, but buffet service, which was not much good to anyone who had a walking stick, or other mobility aid.
Dinner was self service as well, and much of a sameness about it. Luckily my husband carried the hot soup to our table, and I managed my own plate. I felt sorry for couples where they were both disabled, and there were plenty of them.
Entertainment was one night a week only, another two nights we had bingo and a quiz. The hotel itself was antiquated, we had a huge chunk out of the rim of the bath where someone had tried to prise the bath front off, leavin a dangerously jagged edge.
We had a wonderful view of the pier, and the big wheel, and the location was handy enough for the town centre. That is the only good thing I can say about the Royal Albion.
We will certainly not be back. There was another wedding due the day we were leaving. I feel sorry for the next coach party which were due in.

Room Tip: Even with the lift, there are still five or six stairs between corridors. Corner suites are large an...

basically, unless you are in Brighton to have a boozy stag/hen do, I wouldn't bother coming to this hotel. You will only get a good nights sleep if you're blind drink and pass out. We stayed on the 3rd floor (sea front) and we could here the words and base to all the songs from a club below until the early hours. Everything else the other bad reviews say are true. Cold water, not enough tables for breakfast, filthy windows, slow reception, grubby and dated decor. This hotel has much more potential. I struggle to understand why the hotel was fully booked.
