“Fine stay”
Reviewed 5 January 2009

From some of the previous reviews I thought I was in for a terrible experience. However, I found the Hilton in Brighton to be similar to other Hiltons. I had an executive room on the 6th floor which looked recently rennovated with very modern decor so I suppose the mixed reviews are from people staying rooms that have not been rennovated. The room was missing the minibar and a window would not open and close properly but otherwise it was quite nice. I had a room looking towards the water which had a lovely view but a bit noisy at night since there is a major road below.

I stayed at the Hilton over Christmas for a few days. The idea was to get away with family and be in an environment for xmas where we felt relaxed and looked after.

We booked a package to include breakfast & dinner, which meant a 'special xmas day' dinner.

The overall stay was terrible. The hotel is shabby, the rooms are poor and the service/ food was horrendous. We where put in a conference room for our xmas dinner with a cold buffet and no music and a dead xmas tree. We all felt so disappointed - as did fellow diners. The breakfast was worse and the staff didn’t seem trained to serve guests or to care.

The general overall experience made our xmas terrible so we left the hotel on boxing day and went to the lovely Hotel Du Vin, which was wonderful - so we made up for our terrible Hilton mistake!

I am terribly sorry you experienced these problems, and concerned that you did not receive a response from Hilton. We have several email addresses, unfortunately I cannot investigate this further without knowing the address you used. Trip Advisor rules prevent me from requesting your details, but any correspondence sent to the hotel will be responded to. All guests are highly valued, and their feedback is very important to us.

We had a fab room with sea view, clean and very comfortable albeit a bit too warm but air con sorted that!
Staff were very polite and attentive with nothing too much trouble, breakfast was plentiful, coffee and tea offered constantly and staff knowledgable.
Went swimming late evening and the spa was lovely and relaxing and staff helpful. There are times when children aren't allowed as stated in room brochures.
Only problem we encountered was the amount of young children runnning around and taking all the seats in the bar with hardly any parental control!!

We just spent three nights at Christmas here with our 84 year old, disabled mother(mother-in-law). We had a room right next to her 's which was well equipped for the disabled. I cannot say enough positive things about the staff of this hotel. Everyone was attentive, helpful, and went out of their ways to make us, and more importantly, our mother feel welcomed and honored. When my mother tried to move her breakfast tray herself and dropped it shattering the dishes, there was a knock on her door within minutes. The cleaner had heard the noise and came to check that first she was all right and then to clean up the mess without a fuss. When I arrived later and sought out the woman who had been so kind to Mum to thank her, she was delightful.
The breakfasts were wonderful, we had no other meals there. All staff in the dinningroom, lounge, and desk areas were helpful, polite and cheerful.
What could have been a difficult three days was wonderful thanks to the people at this hotel.

This is a large Victorian hotel on the seafront in Brighton & very accessible to conference centres and town centre.

Though a bit scruffy in places (unmatching doors when walking down corridors & general wear & tear), the room I had was of a good standard, even though being positioned at the back of the hotel with an awful view. It had a large new plasma screen & the bathroom seemed reasonably newly refurbished. There wasn’t too much wrong with it to look at.

Problems were in line with other comments on Tripadvisor, so I shouldn’t have been surprised. The heating in the room was completely broken, so you got a distinct chill when entering - being a cold, stormy December night, this was especially a problem. And there was noise from outside where previous unrepaired storm damage was flapping against the wall outside my window.

The hotel ignored a request at about 6pm to have a look at the lack of heat before I went out & two more visits to reception starting at about 10.30pm resulted in a heater eventually being provided close to midnight. This heater was about as strong as a candle, the reason for which became apparent when it fused the room’s main electric circuit out during the night. So the TV, whilst looking good wasn’t a whole lot of good in the end. Given the 6 hours it took to unsuccessfully look at problems the previous day, I abandoned attempts to resolve & checked out early.

So overall the rooms are Ok. But the poor service & maintenance issues just aren’t worth the hassle of staying here. Go somewhere else instead if you have a choice.
Unfortunately I find this a common theme with Hilton hotels, so it may be the last visited for a while. Standards just never live up to expectation of the brand.

I would definitely recommend this hotel to others. The staff was extremely hospitable and accommodating. The room was clean, nice size, with a lovely view of the beach. The breakfast buffet was fabulous-wide selection of food and everything we had was terrific!
I was very impressed with the consistency of good quality and dependability of the Hilton Hotels while in England.

Warm welcome from reception. Went to room and on opening door was met with a smell of stale food which we think was wafting in through window. There was a constant noise from air-con or extractor fans. Room was very cold as heating was not working.
Bizarrely there was no shaver socket in the room. We did ask reception and they said they do have adaptors at reception but none were available during our stay so hubby looked like a vagrant by the time we left!!!
