Before we even arrived at the hotel I had a very bad impression. I booked a suite here as a special surprise for my husbands Birthday, following my reservation on the hotels website I sent an email to the email address stated on my confirmation requesting some simple addiions, a bottle of champagne in the room, pre order breakfast in bed and to drop our luggage off before our actual arrival so as to keep the suprise from my husband until the very last minute. I never received a reply so the day before our arrival I started to call the hotel. Despite several calls during which I was passed around the hotel in circles I never actually got my requests granted which resulted in me having to tell my husband before I planned to.
On arrival at the hotel we got an even worse impression. There was a queue and one receptionist, we waited and waited until finally another receptionist came but she checked in someone and then spent 15 MINUTES helping the other receptionist dealing with a lost booking. We barely got an apology for the wait when we finally got checked in.
On arrival to our room (311 or 'The Storrington Suite') I was pleasantly surprised it appeared clean and well kept. Further investigation discovered lights that didnt work (when we called reception we were told "you probably arent using them properly we will send someone to show you how"!!) when they arrived the lights were clearly faulty but we decided to make do with the lamps rather than be disturbed by an engineer fixing them. The mini bar was empty and made a terrible racket so much so that we unplugged it. There were no robes in the room. The bathroom was clean but worn around the edges, the grouting in the shower was shoddy and it was mouldy, there were cracked tiles on the floor and the hook on the back of the bathroom door looked like someone had attempted to rip it out and no-one had bothered to fix it. Oh and no hot water came from the tap in the sink it was just lukewarm. The good points about the room were its size - it was huge and the view out onto the sea with a massive balcony. On the whole though the room was comfortable, although I am glad I booked it in the half price sale as it would have been £200 and I REALLY wouldnt have been impressed.
The 24 hours bar shut at 11pm even to residents 'as it was too quiet to stay open' but did they really need to turn off the music and most of the lights? That made us feel really welcome.
We did order breakfast to our room and it arrived promptly. After reading the reviews on here I was looking forward to the breakfast! I shouldnt have bothered in was rancid. I took on mouthful of the scrambled egg and was promptly sick. I have no idea if it was made with cheap dried egg or maybe with sour milk but it was evil and I had no desire to go on eating. My husband tells me it was 'ok' but bit chewy.
Finally on check out I was hit with a bigger bill than expected. It turned out that I had been charged again for the rancid breakfast that I had already prepaid in the room rate! This was rectified but again not much of an apology.
Overall the stay was ok but I dont think I would stay at the hotel again.
