We stayed at the hotel for 2 nights starting 7 May 2010. We decided to book a suite room as we got the room half price through the Hilton website. We had room 311. Big room with big bed. Lovely sea view and balcony. There was also a separate lounge area. Room was clean.
Bed was comfy and had 6 pillows. The furniture in the room was shabby - for this type of room you would expect better furniture. The drawers in the wardrobe were slighty broken. And the kettle was inside a cupcoard which I personallt think could be dangerous.
Bathroom was big and had marble tiles. Nice toilettries. Altough according to the website bathrobes and slippers should have been supplied we didn't have any in our room. Also the marble shelf had a big split in it. The bath plug cord was broken so it was difficult to get the bath plug out and I did actually hurt my finger a little bit.
The TV in the bedroom was a big plasma tv with limited tv channels (BBC1, BBC2, five, BBC news 24, sky news, sky news football, cbeebies and fiver. So now channel 3 or 4!
It took us a while to work out how the lights work - it's quite complicated.
The TV in the lounge needed replacing as part of the panel on the front had broked off, also the TV remote didn't work. The in-room magazines were a nice touch. There was an extra fridge in a cabinet in the lounge but it was unplugged and we weren;t sure how long it had been unplugged so we didn't bother turning it on.
Breakfast was lovely and plenty of choice. We had breakfast in the regency room each day which is the overflor room. The post before this one says that if you booked through LastMinute or Expedia you get put in here - that's not true! We booked directly through the hotel and still had to have breakfast in this room. If you don't get downstairs early enough to eat in the sea view restaurant you will have to eat in the overflow room.
The hotel was in a great location, near all the places we wanted to go. Apart from the shabby furniture the hotel was nice and I would go back again provided the furniture had been updated! Needless to say if I had paid full price for the room (£230 per night!!!) I would have been extremely disappointed in the quality of the furniture.
Don't bother parking in the hotel car park. Park in the underground car park at Regency Square. You get a ticket as you go in and pay as you leave. It's £12.50 for 24 hours, if you park for 48 hours it's £25. Park near the entrance on the top floor or near the exit on the bottom floor though as they seem to be the safest places to park.
Make sure to visit Donatello's in the Lanes for lunch or dinner - it has really good food and cocktails and is not expensive. Also get a muffin in the muffin shops in the Lanes as they are yummy! Don't bother going to the Marina - it's all over priced shops and restaurants and not much else.
