“Didn't live up to expectations.”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 22 November 2010

Stayed for the weekend on 4th floor, Double 'Deluxe" room; sea facing. Beautiful victorian building; sympathetically decorated and furnished reception area with helpful and pleasant concierge.
Room smaller than expected but adequate if everything else had lived up to expectations which sadly it didn't. No biscuits; no toilet brush; no facecloth or shower cap; cheap loo roll; one pillow each that was as thin as a slice of bread; grubby carpet; gloomy corridors; burnt lampshades (where bulb touched material); pricey mini bar and very pricey room service (£10.00 to have breakfast bought up); limited TV channels; thin walls seperating rooms (we could hear next doors conversation).
On a positive note, we couldn't fault the range of food available for the self service breakfast , all delicious however, we had to ask twice for coffee and the whole seating process seemed chaotic - almost lost our seat when we went up to the buffet area. The hotel is well located for shops and beach. Not too much traffic or street noise so was able to sleep but probably would have done anyway after 7 hours shopping and a show in the evening. Having read some of these reviews, I would ask to see my allocated room next time before accepting it.

Positive overall. Looks like the negative reviews on here are mostly from those who were put into one of their unrefurbished rooms. So when you book ask for a refurbished room. One of our party did and was moved.

Small gym that manages to cram everything needed for a full body workout, included in the price.
Good variety at breakfast. Sad that some fruits are from the tin - when will the English learn?
Concierge are knowledgable of local shops and restaurants, and are very helpful.
Very close to many shops and lanes that boast superb resturants and eclectic boutiques.
Internet connection is fast enough for a quality skype call.
Their IP was clean, which meant that all emails sent were successfully delivered.

Their business centre offers dinky poor quality slow inkjet colour printers with very thin paper. The printer I was using ran out of ink part way through. The charge is normally an exorbitant 5GBP per HALF HOUR to use the net incl printing, but managed to get this thrown in as I had already paid 15GBP for cable internet in my room.
All 3 of my business group experienced problems getting connected to their fixed line internet. Hotel staff are clueless and slow to respond on net issues, as they have outsourced their net to a company with support staff in Eastern Europe. First net support staff insisted that I waste my time doing something that I knew was completely irrelevant, refused to listen to my correct diagnosis, didn't understand the advice I was giving, and when I asked to be passed to her supervisor she first refused, and then hung up, leaving no notes on my call to allow herself to be traced. Next guy was able to understand my diagnosis and was able to rectify the problem.

Aircons work, but are very noisy. For those like me who don't mind the background noise when sleeping, it doesn't matter.

This is what staying in a hotel in England was like in the sixties; in fact I don't think it has been refurbished since then. They could even market it a sort of hotel museum. Very disappointing room (I was upgraded to a double deluxe) with dirty curtains and furniture missing much of its veneer.- all of it in need of attention.

On the plus side, the staff were very good - friendly and helpful - making the most of a bad job. The location is good too - right on the front close to the centre of town

This Hilton is in prime position right on the seafront promenade and close to the bars cafes and culture of The lanes area of Brighton. Its a big old hotel and we stayed in a very well refurbished room thanks to an upgrade but other guests were less happy with some of the apparently un refurbished rooms so when we go again we will be very careful about which room we book.
The Hilton brakfast was as usual exzcellent. We had to give up and get our own coffee one morning but the breakfast Maitre ( for want of a better description ) immediately addressed the problem-she was outstanding ambassador for the hotel unlike the evening Maitre in the restaurant who could not seat us even though the restaurant was 80% empty and then after waiting 35 minutes we asked to see the manager and his attitiude was terrible. We walked out and ended up having fish and chips in our room from next door-not the romantric evbening we had expected and of coiurse we dined out every evening thereafter. We dont thin ki we were the only ones with similar views but we were also told that when the ser5vice is good the food is excellent. sad to say we will probably never know.
Would we go back-yes we would. the location is great and we enjoyed long wealks alomng the prom, we enjoyed our room-rather limited TV channels our only tiny gripe

A Grand Hotel in the old British tradition, but Hilton has cynically cost-cut most of the grandeur from the poor old girl. How can you have a four star hotel that doesn’t give you flannels or shower caps, that switches off its air conditioning (if it has any) because it’s November yet the rooms are like ovens, has corridors that have years of being bashed about by luggage trolleys, offers such a dreary bar? The list goes on and on. The saving grace is that the staff seemed very nice.

Going down the dark and gloomy corridors searching for my room I was prepared for the worst and there it was! An also gloomy room down in what felt like the basement. I wasn't worried that the bed was a single until I got into. It was not a comfortable mattress and it was on castors so it moved if you turned over. The room certainly did not look like anything shown in the photos on the internet, very 70's, tired and in need of refurbishment. Was pleased that we only had one night stay. I did not see any other rooms and this experience could be in the minority - I wonder? If so, I can't believe they would lower their standards to a room such as this.

The hotel does have a lovely view out to sea and the dining room is beautiful. Dinner was OK, nothing special, breakfast was much better.

A lovely hotel, but for a four star in the UK, we were dissapointed with the room, firstly the room and bathroom was quite small, also the shower fixtures and fittings could have done with being updated, The shower could have done with some TLC and modernising.

Also they hotel charged for the sparkling water placed on our table and the restaurant was a bit overpriced, so better off eating elsewhere.

On the plus side parking was complimentary and the stafff were friendly
