“Fantastic”
Reviewed 18 March 2014

Can't fault this hotel, my mother has mobility problems so we were given a huge beautifully presented room. The breakfast was amazing. The staff were very professional. Altogether a very pleasant experience.

I originally booked a standard room for two nights at the discount rate but, following Tripadvisor reviews, had decided we'd probably upgrade. This was offered to us immediately on checking in so never got to see the standard room but sea-view upgrade definitely worth the extra £10 per night. We were on the 4th floor so very quiet and great views of the stormy sea. The room was very hot but we managed to turn the radiators off and prop the windows open. We enjoyed it all so much, we booked another night (25th -27th Feb) and managed to get this at just about the same rate rather than the more expensive Thursday rate. All the staff were really friendly and helpful and the breakfast is great.
Yes, the carpets were a bit stained in places, the lift is very creaky and there was a lumpy (but not mould smelling) patch on the bedroom wall but none of this affected our stay at.
It's a great location for a fraction of the price of other hotels I've stayed in nearby. I've been to Brighton a lot but it was nice to venture in the Hove direction for a change and the hotel's location is perfect for this.
Will definitely be back.

Room Tip: Higher floor is nice and quiet (we were in 419). Lift is a bit temperamental but just keep pressing...

Went for a long weekend in February, room was small but clean, nice big bath but very deep could be an issue if you had any mobility issues! Couldn't get any cold water from the tap in the sink it was hot! Also the room was excessively hot and there was no way of controlling it! Although the radiators were off - so maybe not something they could easily address! But I suppose it was ok!

The Great:

Got a cracking deal for 3 nights (25th to 28th Feb);
Room had a large bath and shower with fantastic water pressure;
Bedding changed daily, fresh towels & tea/coffee delivered;
Room 118 particularly spacious;
Rooms not too hot;
Called Reception for an iron - delivered in 2 minutes;
Asked for a wake up call - staff happy to help.

The negative:

Walls are paper thin - woken this morning - 6am - by the guests in the next room (117 or 119) having very loud sex. Not the hotels fault, however some sort of sound-proofing would be greatly appreciated.

Definitely returning, pleased with the value and service. Cheers.

The room we were given smelt of damp in the bathroom so we asked to move to another room which smelt fine. The single-glazed windows were drafty, being a very windy day, but the room was warm enough. Very pleasant stay for the money.

I spent 5 nights in this hotel with my partner and a couple of friends to celebrate my 21st birthday. We booked early using booking .com and were able to book two double rooms including breakfast at £550. For the price we paid, the stay was okay but if we'd paid full price we would have been annoyed, especially because it takes 8 hours each way to get from where we live to Brighton. This hotel had both good and bad points.

The good:

Breakfast was lovely and the breakfast staff were very polite and friendly. They also served soya milk which I was very impressed with. The location of the hotel itself is great- once we parked the car, we didn't have to use it again all week. The pier, sealife centre, bars, restaurants, a cinema, museums, shops and the artists' quarter are all within easy walking distance. You step out of the door and are directly facing the sea and a lovely pebble beach.
Parking at the hotel cost £15 a night which sounded expensive to us at first, but it is the cheapest parking we found within a half hour walk. The beds were very comfortable and large, which we were also impressed with. The baths were also a good size and the hot tap was instantly hot so running baths was quick. There is someone at reception 24/7 so if you want to go out at night, you can and don't have to worry about keys or getting back in.

The bad:

The floor was massively slanted so not good if you're not very steady on your feet. We placed things in the cupboards and they instantly slid back out again! The outside of the windows was very dirty. Floorboards were very creaky and we could hear people walking around upstairs. The shower was awful- water pressure very low so no good for washing hair. The furniture was very dated and a bit shabby looking. The lift was also only large enough to hold 3 people at a time and as a group of four people with a week of luggage, we found this irritating.
Also room service was very basic. The bedding was not changed at all during our stay despite the pillow being obviously dirty- they simply flipped the pillow over. It doesn't take much time or effort to change a single pillow case. It might sound petty, but in every hotel I've stayed in previously, even very basic budget hotels, the bedding has been changed.

Over all, the stay was enjoyable for what we paid. If you're just looking for somewhere to sleep and spend a lot of time going out/sight seeing this is a good place to go.

The hotel is in a good location to the town centre. The hotel rooms are clean but need a good refurb. If you are looking for a cheaper hotel where you just want a place to sleep then this is the perfect place.
