“Great Value For Money”
Reviewed 20 January 2009

We paid £55 for the night (room only) through a late availability website and thought that the Kings Hotel was exceptional value for money. Located along the seafront, just a few doors away from big names like The Grand and Hilton, the hotel is pretty convenient for town (about 10 minutes walk from the shops). The room was a little basic but of a good size and we couldn't complain at the rate we paid. Nice bar and dining room downstairs and an NCP car park 2 minutes walk away. Really couldn't fault the value for money and we would certainly stay again.

  • Liked — Value for money in such a convenient sea front location
  • Disliked — Room was very basic

I have just spent a lovely night here. The staff were very helpful and the hotel is stylish and clean. The parking just along the road is not big but we were given a space for 24 hours, in a city that is notorious for its lack.
The hotel was a little over heated, but the staff went out of thier way several times to make our stay perfect. The night porter after battling with a coffee machine went off into the kitchen and came back with a coffee he had made himself.
A cab was booked and arrived on time £5 into the city centre.

  • Liked — Position, parking and friendly staff.
  • Disliked — A little over heated.

This hotel is terrible and very overpriced. You could stay somewhere much nicer for the money.

The standard double and single rooms are tiny and really shabby with cracks in the walls and wallpaper peeling off. They look like they haven't been decorated for about 30 years. When we arrived my husband and I were so disappointed with the first room we were allocated we complained and were shown two more - equally as poor. The room we picked was the only one without springs poking through the mattress of the bed. The rest of the furniture is ugly and badly made with flimsy handles. There is no iron, the TVs are tiny and the advertised WiFi was not in evidence in the room we stayed in. The bathroom was grotty with wrinkly and cracked flooring lino held together by gaffer tape (several elderly looking layers of tape) and filthy taps. The shower was also very old and very poor. The hotel generally is also very noisy, with thin walls between rooms. Staff were surly and unhelpful in the main, and did not seem surprised at all that we complained. They did not take notes of the complaint or seem at all keen to remedy the complaint.

The bar downstairs and some of the more expensive rooms have been refurbished and these are the ones shown on the website - the website pictures are not at all an accurate reflection of the general standard of the rooms in the hotel. As I was there for a wedding I spoke to numerous other people staying in the hotel who were all disappointed with the standard of the hotel.

The food was OK but not good enough to redeem the stay. If I had not been attending a wedding of a very close friend in the hotel the next night (New Years Eve) I would have walked out and gone to a different hotel or home as soon as we saw the rooms. The only possible positive was when we left we were given a small refund on the price as I complained again. I would not stay in this hotel again even if I won a trip for free. It is terrible so save your money and go somewhere else.

This hotel is in a great location for seafront and brighton centre and all the shops and things you would want to visit. Some parking available at £15 a night.....four poster room not really that, as previous review has said, just a divan with lumps of wood round it, and in our room this wasnt even joined at the top!

very noisy at night in the seafront room due to collection or delivery of all the linen in metal cages rumbling along the pavement....

not much breakfast, had to make choices between fruit or fry up or pancakes or pay £5 extra.

Really we felt that it was pretty typical of english especially brighton hotels for which you pay through the noise and get very little for your money, having said that its much better than the Granville which is 2 mins closer to the brighton centre....maybe spend the extra cash and stay at the Grand or the Metropole and have a great stay.

We ended up with 3 rooms in a really below average 3*hotel, public areas OK bedrooms scruffy and basic. On arrival we asked about some lunch to be told the restaurant was closed, when we asked "till when" we were greeted with the reply - permanately.

Sunday morning breakfast was a real ordeal when we had lengthy negotiations to get a table for 6. They said they were really busy and could.nt move tables when we explained they were busy partly because we were paying customers they squashed all of us on one table.

We are not snobs just expected better- won't visit again

we have stayed at this hotel before and that was 3 years ago and we had a nice room and the food was fine.

But this time was very poor, we thought we would go for a 4 poster bed , well it was abed with lumps of wood making it look like a 4 poster no drapes just planks of wood.

the hotel was very warm you had to keep your windows open and this made sleeping differcult as the noise from outside was loud .

Breakfast was of a very poor quality we both asked for the english breakfast and it was bought to our table within 5 minutes it was all dried up reheated and reheated very poor.

This hotel needs to be updated and get a new cook?

my husband and I needed a room last minute, we came across this hotel, i read through some of the reviews where a few ppl where unhappy but thought what the hell, we are not snobby and to be honest it was the cheapest hotel we found, well when we got there we were pleasantly surprised, the hotel looks lovely on the out side and when you step in its its just as nice, very welcoming, our room was just right and we had everything we needed, I did find there was alot of channels on the tv, as some ppl had mentioned not but to be honest we didnt book the room to watch the telly anyway. we nearly missed breakfast as we didnt read that it was only served till 9:30 but they got us a table and we were able to order what we wanted anyway, breakfast was lovely (classic english) as for the staff i would say i agree with the other comments on here, helpfull but would not say friendly, just a smile here n there would be nice. overall a very nice stay, no complaints, everything you would expect, would definately come again.
