“Disappointed with the room”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 27 May 2014

I have been there for the first time with my Partner. The place was looking very welcoming but when we have seen the toilet of the room was terrible. The shower was disgusting, it was brownish and the sink was really bad as well.

Room Tip: To review all rooms safety and making sure that are welcoming and cleaned as well.

This review is on behalf of my wife who stayed here with a friend.

Location wise the hotel is in a very good location. It is right on the sea front and close to the town centre.

The reception area to the hotel was fantastic and very well looked after. The staff were very nice and polite when we arrived.

The room was a big let down. We had a standard twin room, I requested a sea view but instead we got a view of a roof...

The beds were very sub-standard. Little movements would make the whole bed move so they aren't the most stable of things. They were especially hard which led to an uncomfortable nights sleep. The toilet was very cramped.

Tried to order room service but they couldn't grasp the concept of a ham and cheese sandwich...they could however make a ham and cheese panini...righto then...I was then told that this panini and a lemonade would cost me £12...We ended up ordering Dominoes instead but even then they wouldn't bring it to our room. "Room Service" eh???

Parking was inadequate. There was only 6 or so spaces for the whole hotel which really isn't enough considering the size. We had to find alternative parking elsewhere.

We feel pretty ripped off as for the price we got a VERY substandard service.

I would say to only stay here if you spend the extra money and get a superior room. From the picture on Trip Advisor its obvious that the only rooms that are cared for are the superior ones.

Room Tip: Pick a superior room.

Thank you for taking the time to leave a review here on Trip Advisor following your wife's recent stay.

Apologies there was no availability in our car park, we are limited here in line with most of the other city center hotels and only have 36 spaces. My apologies that the service they received was not to their satisfaction we do take all guest feedback seriously and this helps us to identify traiining needs.

Kind regards

A typical over-priced hotel which is the norm for Brighton although their best rooms are quite large especially the beds. However, the windows need double or preferably triple glazing as on a bad night wind can be horrendous so take a back room.Breakfast was not very hot although plenty of variety and good service throughout the stay.Parking is a nightmare and expensive which ought to be free if you can get a space on their limited frontage and would only return if a reduced rate were available.

Room Tip: Great sea views from the upper floor rooms

Many thanks for taking the time to leave a review following your recent stay.

Parking is a challenge here in Brighton and we charge £18 which is competitive with the city and public car parks nearby. We only have limited parking available on a first come first served basis.

On street parking is free from 8pm thru 8am.

I hope that we can welcome you back again in the future.

Kind regards

Room not ready on arrival. Disturbed by noisy and inconsiderate residents. Residents smoking ( possibly cannabis ) and using mobile phones on shared balcony. Saw no sign of management trying to control this. Excessive parking fees.

Room Tip: Only book a room at the front where it might be less noisy.

John H,

Myself and the team would like to thank you for providing us with your recent online review following your recent stay at the hotel.

I would like to also apologise on behalf of the noisy neighbouring guests that you encountered. The Management Team of the hotel undertaken regular security walks of the building and outwith these times we encourgae all guests to contact either Reception or the Duty Manager on the 2424 line to assist with any issues you may be encountering.

The hotel does charge car parking at a rate of £18.00 per car per night and this is a competitive price within the Brighton and Hove area; whereby car parking can cost in excess of £25.00 per car per night. Myself and the team are always at hand to advise or any other alternative parking that might be better suited to your needs (free street parking is available between 8pm and 8am and is within walking distance of the hotel).

I would like to thank you for your feedback and myself and the team look forward to welcoming you back to the hotel in the near future.

We stayed with our 5-month-old baby for two nights in a family room. Staff were very efficient, and a cot was already waiting for us in the room, as we requested. All furniture in the room was in very good condition, and our bed was super comfortable.

The only downsides were the WiFi (there was no signal in the room) and the restaurant (not terribly exciting, to say the least...).

We stayed for one night in May. Before our visit, I emailed the hotel to ask about the parking and had an almost instant and very comprehensive response. There is a tiny car park right at the front of the hotel, however there is a small one way street to the side, with further underground parking. It does cost £18, but I feel that this is very reasonably priced for Brighton as I have seen overnight rates for £25+.
Check in was quick and easy, the rooms were well appointed and very clean and the beds HUGE!
The building is an older property, and isn't perfect but more than adequate for the price of £70 per night. Would I stay again? Yes.

After staying at another Hotel Mercure the previous night our hopes and expectations were set quite high.

We were, to be quite honest, disappointed in the appearance of the hotel itself and our room.

On the journey to our room which was right at the back of the hotel we noted the carpeted floor had some dips in them in which your foot would sink into a hole. Which was a bit disconcerting.

Despite ordering and paying for a double room over six months prior, our room was set up with two single beds with a "disabled person alarm cord" hanging down between the two beds.

Why you have a room set up for someone with mobility issues right at the back of a hotel seems a bit silly. Especially when the room was on the smallish size

A visit to reception to request a room change where we were told there were no spare doubles left but they could "zipper" the two singles together which was done.

Those visitors with cars should be aware of the £18 a night parking fee to park in their car park.

All in all it was not what we expected of a 4 star hotel.

Jon C,

I would like to thank you for taking the time out to provide myself and the team with your feedback relating to your recent stay here at the hotel.

I was disappointed to read that you felt the hotel did not meet your expectations.

I was pleased to note that upon informing the team about the bed set up within your room being incorrect that they resolved this for you in a timely and efficient manner.

The hotel does offer car parking to all guests at a rate of £18.00 per day and this is based on a first come, first served basis. The rate charged by the hotel is a competitive one within the Brighton area.

I would like to thank you for your feedback and hope that myself and the team will welcome you back in the near future.
