“Stag's at the hostel”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 25 June 2012

Having never stayed in a hostel before I was somewhat wary of how it would be but tured out quite surprised. Now please bear in mind we were 11 chaps on a stag do and you will get the picture. I must agree with previous reviewers about the general attitude of the staff, particularly the miserable cretin who checked us in (we had paid for a room of 12, even though there were 11 of us, so some poor soul wouldn't have to suffer our drunken exploits all weekend, sadly this information had not been given to the afore mentioned cretin who just said he hadn't dealt with the booking and so couldn't change the situation.)
The Kiwi covering the night shift was a fine fellow and most helpful when prompted though.
The rooms were clean enough, the showers were hot and the toilets and wash facilities adequate.
The sleeping arrangements of triple bunks was fine but bearing in mind we were out partying till the early hours frankly most of us would have slept anywhere.
Breakfast was cereal and toast and all the coffee you could drink so I was not unhappy, it must be pointed out that there is a fully functioning kitchen and 24 hour shop next door so we cooked up bacon butties to soak up the vast alcohol content. They have a pool and football tables which were a laugh at 4.30am pissed and the booze prices were very reasonable.
All in all it added a little extra fun to the weekend as it was very much 1 star as opposed to the 3 or 4 star we would normally be used to but hey it did the job!

Teeeeeeeeeeeerrrible place! Don't stay here. Rooms were filthy and like infernos. 15 of us rammed into a small, dark sauna. Hostel staff wandering in without knocking. Unfriendly staff. Breakfast was pitiful. Ladders up to the top of the triple decker beds can be likened to lethal torture devices. All in all, it's a no from me.

Room Tip: St Christophers is a much better shout

Recently stayed at this hostel and was very disappointed. Upon arrival the greeting we received was very uninformative as we were not even told the whereabouts of the toilet or shower facilities. The toilet and shower facilities were unclean and at times smelt rather special. The room was very poorly air-conditioned and therefore was very hot and uncomfortable to sleep in especially when sharing with a lot of people. Staff were not overly friendly and the cleaner did not knock when entering the room which was rather rude and inconsiderate. Breakfast was disappointing to say the least, one toaster for the whole hostel as well as items not being replenished. Various items were found in the room on arrival including a doughnut underneath the bed and a rather unpleasant wrapper which made us question the cleanliness of the room. This hostel is not ideal for big groups and you are not allowed alcohol or food in the dorms. Location was good, just a very disappointing hostel.

Urgh. Stayed here a few months back with four friends. What an awful, awful place. First and foremost, the staff seem to get pretty annoyed when you ask them anything at all, and seem to think that you're some freeloader trying to crash on their sofa as opposed to a paying guest. Secondly, do not stay here if you are from a cold country, because the rooms are approx. 1 hundred billion degrees centigrade. Thirdly, I was on the top of a triple bunk, and getting up and down the damn thing was pretty life threatening. The hostel is also in a pretty dodgy end of town- me and my friends were verbally abused at a nearby cashpoint.
Just don't do it.

Don't stay here, stayed in a 15 bed corridor with no air conditioning apart from one poorly located fan, the window opened 10 cm MAX and the room was baking especially when filled with 15 people. The beds were stacked 3 high meaning no movement or sitting up. Although some of the beds had lights not all did, so proved difficult when people wanted to sleep. The breakfast was disappointing, with a huge queue for one toaster, and they regually run out of orange juice and provided warm milk, other drinks were not available. The service was poor with rude staff who seemed to be on a power trip and treated us like rubbish, although we were paying guests. The cleaner didn't knock when entering the room which caused major embarrassment when changing, and was frankly quite rude. We also found out when going to collect our deposit back that they had been in our room in the day time and taken pictures of our stuff. DON'T leave your valuables if they are going in and out the room without anyone knowing. There are much better and nicer places to stay and I advise you go there!!! Stay well away.

I've stayed over a couple of times, the first time for over a week, now this is a hostel, not a hotel, and on that tune you do get what you pay for! For the amount I paid I have to say that is very good, specially because I felt quite safe, even though I stayed in a dorm with strangers and my bags were among other people belongings. So Journeys if I ever return to Brighton I'll sure stay with you! :)

Room Tip: I stayed in a dorm with other 11 girls and this was no problem to me, but if you're too funny, t...

We stayed here on the jubilee weekend so we knew it would be busy but the hostel is right on the main road so the noise level was ridicous!! The room was a mixed 16 dorm so it was sweltering hot, no storage and one tiny window. The showers and toilets were few and far between and only checked once a day!!! Not recommend for cleanliness but an ideal location for the gay clubs!!
