My wife was looking for somewhere for 6 of us to eat between a rehearsal and concert at nearby St Bart's. She saw this place, then came home and looked it up. Thank you to fellow TripAdvisor reviewers, who spoke of it so highly and were spot on with their praise.
The building is attractive, the staff combine efficiency and friendliness in equal measure and the food is really excellent. Our squid starter was beautiful and my brother said that his mussels in a creamy and slightly tangy sauce was one of the best things he had ever eaten - praise indeed! A very good chenin blanc and then the acid test - the extra glass of wine ordered separately, something that some restaurants forget to bring, arrived on cue.
Most main courses are £9 or £10, although the fish dishes (cod and bass) raise the bar to £14, so the prices are very reasonable.
The waitress ensured that we were served quickly enough to get to the concert on time and we had a thoroughly enjoyable hour and a half. She also helped us move table with no fuss when the first one was a bit too near the door for one of our party who was feeling a little chilly.
One caveat - for a reservation on a Saturday evening, they took a £5 advance fee per head, something they said that had been regrettably forced on them by diners booking large parties and then not turning up. Personally, I have no issue with this and am surprised that more places don't do it.
