“Very poor”
Reviewed 1 June 2014 via mobile

Went in on the off chance. The food was awful. The risotto tasted like it had tomato soup in it and the mussels just cream poured over them - cold and to sickly to eat. We left our food and went elsewhere.

“Dinner Wednesday May 7th”
Reviewed 8 May 2014

I've known this place for years since it used to be a fishmonger with a small restaurant. Sadly, if last night is true to form they have declined terribly. We had a simple haddock & chips. The fish was dry, tasteless and almost inedible. I think it was frozen, which in a coastal city like Brighton is criminal. We'll never go back and, given the choice of fish & chip shops in the city I would advise anyone else to look elsewhere. What a shame.

“Should have walked a little farther”
Reviewed 25 April 2014

The restaurant itself is in a lovely area but needs a lot of work. It looks dirty inside and I had to ask for a clean spoon. The fish chowder was very good but the whitebait and garlic shrimp were not and didn't taste very fresh. The bathroom is on the third floor up a lot of staircases and is not suitable to anyone whose mobility is less than that of a mountain climber. There are some very nice restaurants in the Lanes so bypass this one. Service was indifferent too.

“A big disappointment”
Reviewed 23 April 2014

We ordered whitebait, whole sea bass and local trout, if you wanted bread with the whitebait, that was extra (never been served whitebait without bread before) main course was served with lemon wedge, no lettuce leaf, nothing that was all extra, with two glasses of wine the bill came to £65.10, far to expensive for what is only a cafe.

“Needs refurbishing ”
Reviewed 22 April 2014 via mobile

We eat out a lot and walk past this restaurant a lot so bank holiday Monday we decided to give it a go they always advertise spaghetti lobster with a glass of wine for £18.95. The food was ok needed more seasoning but that's personal perfectly good glass of red wine and a fantastic homemade tiramisu
But my gripe is the inside of the premises it's old and too old to be shabby chic, the way to the toilets is terrible with grimy carpet and filthy wallpaper, just needs a lot of TLC and they'd have a winner!!!!
