Description: Independent bar à vin, restaurant & cocktail bar based in The Lanes, BrightonWe are a unique bar à vin & restaurant with a passion for great food & wine. We have put a great deal of time & love into selecting our wines. At Plateau you can discover interesting & affordable wines that you are unlikely to see on other local wine lists. Our selection is mostly natural with some biodynamic & organic examples. We have sourced wines from local Sussex producers to renowned names & newcomers. To soak up the wine we serve ‘bites’, small dishes perfect to share or great as a starter. Follow your ‘bites’ with a ‘plateau’ to share or a 'plat' & that’s our dinner experience… although don’t forget dessert! Our chefs source organic, fresh, local produce as much as possible.Did we mention the cocktails? They’re probably the best in town & although we don’t serve Carlsberg we do serve some pretty imaginative beers from around the world. We have some top quality spirits, including some rare rum, whisky & cognac…and I almost forgot, keep an eye out for the ‘cocktail de la semaine’ & ‘beer of the moment’.There is no set way to visit Plateau, you can match the wine to the food or the food to the wine. Pop in just for a drink, a few bites or a three-course meal – the idea is that you do whatever suits you.

“Superb food in a friendly atmosphere”
Reviewed 31 July 2013 via mobile

I love getting a small taste of everything when I go to a restaurant and Plateau have nailed this. The meat platter is superb; individually each meat is cooked to perfection but all together they create a very satisfying dish. The restaurant is atmospheric without being too noisy or cramped and suits the food perfectly. We had a very attentive, knowledgeable waiter so this was an added plus.

“Fun and friendly.”
Reviewed 27 July 2013 via mobile

If I have friends in town we always eat here. Good interesting food that changes all the time. Fantastic atmosphere. We prefer sitting downstairs as its smaller and more intimate.
Great place to eat as well as been situated in the heart of the Lanes.

“My perfect kind of food!!!”
Reviewed 24 July 2013

Large plates to share plus tapas style/size extra dishes if you chose or 'proper' meals (steak / chicken / fish) if that's more your thing. We had veggie plateau and it was so much better than many I have been served - nothing out of jars, instead we had local fresh tomatoes, pink and orange beetroot chunks, whole artichokes, proper torn mozzerella, etc, etc. All delicious. Just needed a couple of slices of home baked chunky bread to wipe the plate clean. The steak was apparently good too. Pudding plateau was selection of all puddings on menu (slightly smaller servings(?) Ideal for someone who can never decide and quantity ideal for three of us. Excellent wine choice. The rioja we went for was good as was the gin fizz cocktail. Service friendly but unobtrusive. Perfect evening!

“great food & atmosphere”
Reviewed 23 July 2013

If you love good wine and decent food with a lively atmosphere then you will enjoy this restaurant. The staff are very well informed when it comes to the great range of natural wines and whiskeys on offer. Just come here for the education you will receive alone as its Worth the trip. Some of the food is served on large platters to share or you can opt for your own plate if you prefer, lots of fish dishes. Last weekend I had sea trout which was perfectly cooked with some tender fennel and other tasty morsels around it. The chips were very good with their garlic aioli...am getting hungry thinking about it!! Also the banana tart tatin was great.

“Incredible food, wine, atmosphere”
Reviewed 23 July 2013

Me and my boyfriend ate here while visiting brighton last week after a recommendation from somebody at another restaurant. It was described to us as french tapas with good wine, but delivered so much more than that. I decided to book for the evening to avoid disappointment, and we ate around 9pm on tuesday. The small restaurant was packed and we had cocktails at the bar before going to our table. The serving staff were very knowledgable, slick and cool which matched the ambience of the restaurant itself. So many places try to pull off 'cool' and it tries to hard. However Plateau oozed confidence from its excellent wine choices and absolutely delicious food. If you are ever in Brighton you MUST try here!
