“very poor room........good breakfast”
Reviewed 12 December 2008

We picked this hotel as we had stayed there before a few years ago and had a great room

This time, we had an awful room, very very tiny, not a secret boidour as it is advertised, the room door did not lock, the wardrobe doors were broken so we couldnt even open it. The bed was like a box of springs with a covering, and the "spa shower" has very much seen better days.

Great location, no parking, breakfast was good, especially for veggies.

Stayed in the Price Regent Room, which is classed as a family room ! on the 4th floor, while there is a lift you then have to get your buggy round and up a flight of steps, with luggage and 2 small children, not very family friendly. The room compared to the other rooms my friends stayed in could do with improvement. The bathroom was disgusting, tiles coming off the walls, chipped bath, rank shower curtain, and bathroom carpet which was stained. I've never stayed in a more expensive room which was so shabby. Not only was the room over priced they also charged us for our children, who we're 16mnts and 2 1/2 !!! I've never been charged for having kids in the room before. I was there at my best friends wedding so didn't want to kick up a fuss to cause any embarrassment. However when we checked out I had to say something, however the Manager did not care at all about my complaints, and I had to pay full price, good location, good view from the room, but I would never stay here again.

First off the reception was friendly and helpful when checking in, so I didn't suffer from bad service as other reviews have said. The room itself was ok, there is no denying that the decor felt a little bit "sad" but given this is a hotel in a prime location then I've certainly stayed in worse. However, the inclusion of a finger nail in the bed-sheets and a plaster on the floor didn't get things off to a good start.

The Brighton Rock room looks over the burnt out remains of the West Pier which is fine, I'm not keen on the view at Brighton but I've no complaints of the rooms outlook In a similar vein I can't really blame the room for the herd of Elephants in the room above that decided to tramp around at 3:30am.

One of the rooms selling points is the huge bath. After the nail incident we decided not to try that. But ceiling shower was fine. The toilet was a little odd, and the rather haphazard (fell off the runners) see-through blinds separating the room from the bathroom might not be to everyone's liking.

The computer access, as a previous review stated, was an issue. The computer room was fine (PC & eMacs) but the internet speed was so slow as to be unusable. The hotel offers free wireless access but in my experience that failed. Both my machines could access the network but were not assigned an IP address and couldn't access the internet. After a phone call to reception I was told to turn-off and on again...yes that helps...not. I noticed the machines in the computer room had to access a ISP site and log on to that first, however I wasn't told how to do that so I just gave up.

Breakfast was nice, with the usual juices, cereals, toast and cooked choices.

Overall I thought the hotel was fine, given it is in a good location. One word of warning though, the web site talks of cheaper car parking. Well they can't offer that anymore so expect to pay full whack.

This is a very fun family run place [by Thai people I recall]

Every room is different and themed. I have stayed several times and would recommend shelling out a bit more for one of the top rooms as the sea views and extra facllities are worth it.

Much better than the Grand etc Has character!

Stayed here with a big group of girls and had a lovely time. The rooms are fab - they've each got a name that relates to the style of the room. We stayed in the Lace Room which was quite chintzy and even had lace gloves framed in the bathroom ! But it was a nice size room with a big window looking out over the sea. There was even a jacuzzi! Quite loud and takes ages to fill up but a nice touch. The breakfast was yummy and big, and the staff were very friendly.

The hotel was also perfectly situated, within walking distance of everything - the beach, the pier, bars, restaurants and lots of shops. You could also walk from the train station (about 20-30 mins) if you don't have heels on.

The only downside was how hot our room got. We were in Brighton on the only hot day of Summer 2008 and the room got really stuffy. There was a plug-in fan which went some way to cooling us down. The windows do open but you can't leave them open if you go out as people could climb across from the next door balcony.

We've stayed here a couple of times in the last few years, and unfortunately the hotel seems to be getting a bit shabby.

The staff are very accommodating and friendly, with a 'good morning' as you go to breakfast every day.

We were in the Prince Regent room, which had a lovely sea view, but a cramped bathroom with water stained carpet. The bed was comfortable, but the traffic noise can take some getting used to, as it's too hot to close the windows.

We didn't try the restaurant this year, but the breakfast was brilliant. A good selection of cooked food, with quick and friendly service.

A selection of DVDs are available to view for free from reception, and a DVD player is provided in each room. The Brighton free wifi has coverage most of the time, and there's a PC available for use near reception.

In conclusion, a good stay. We enjoyed ourselves, but the rooms could do with a lick of paint!

Great location on Brighton seafront - near the Brighton Centre. The staff were welcoming and helpful. Breakfast was excellent - great selection and all served piping hot.

My only negative comment is about my room (Sussex) - it was small, but well appointed - plenty of tea, coffee etc. nice fluffy towels and toiletries in the bathroom. The room must have been nice when it was first decorated, but it's looking rather tired and in need of redecoration now. The window lacked net curtains and was in view of the street at the rear of the hotel. As in a previous review the room overlooks the roof of the kitchen, so in the morning I heard the kitchen fans and smelt the bacon cooking....

Overall, not as stunning as the website, but still a nice privately run hotel in Brighton
