The Granville Hotel
Ranked #16 of 43 Hotels in Brighton

This hotel has a really good website, but beware, while the breakfast room, and the breakfast itself, have had some attention paid to them the rest of the hotel is tired, and rather a sad example of what is wrong with UK hotels. Thi is a pity as the views over the sea are great, and worth it (I supose) if you do not look back into your room. There are a copuple of good touches - a free DVD library in the recpetion and a good wireless network, but it is not a hotel that I would recommend given what else is on offer in Brighton.

As it says in the title i stayed in this hotel as an engagement gift for my girlfriend. She screamed with delight when she saw the 4 poster bed she screamed when she saw the double size greek jacuzzi room and the tremendous view of the sea and burnt down pier, which you could actually see from the bed. The breakfast was divine and the satff were very laid back and not snooty. the bar downstairs was nice. Didnt go to the restaurant though....I would recommend a stay in the Balcony room above any other boutique luxury suite in brighton. The website isnt updated as the room has just been done up so it looks much better than the website

oh yeah and it had massive high victorian ceilings

I was attracted to this hotel because their marketing was good, with themed rooms and a plan of the hotel where you can choose your actual room (if available).
Our room was the lavish Prince Regent Room - perfect family sized room but the kids had to share a pull out double (used to that but prefer to avoid wherever possible).
When I booked direct, the owner argued in respect to cost, wanted to charge extra for my 2 kids (even though advertised as single price per night), and not allow me 2nd night half price which was advertised offer at the time.
Got there, great location, opposite the West Pier (what's left of it) but no parking (NCP is extortionate price) - traffic jams horendous too. Had a room overlooking the beach - ab fab view......
Room was sizable, although not clean as would have liked and runnning water spurted instead. In one of the two dedicated family rooms which were not directly accessible via a lift, a few stairs involved so be warned. Breakfast was fab too....
Upon leaving I got a very serious and frosty response from the owner, wish I'd have waited for the receptionist as she was lovely. However the owner took my money and showed no interest or desire to know about our comments despite me trying to spart up a conversation. O well, a small part in the bigger picture.
Other good things to mention are the free DVD library (for the rooms which have DVD) and the free internet service...
Worth a stay due to location alone but don't expect top notch. 3 stars is correct rating.

Maybe my expectations were a little high but a lot of what was described/suggested wasn’t 100% and certainly not anything like it is portrayed on the web site.

The good bits :
1. Lovely great bath.
2. Nice bed linen.
3. Lovely full English breakfast
4. Near to the sea front and town
5. Nice bath robes.
6. Spacious rooms.

The not so good bits :
1. The rooms were cleanish but not up to Travelodge standard.
2. Our Noel Coward theme room comprised a couple of MDF pseudo art deco furnishings, lacking detail and quality. Given that it was supposed to be a “theme room”, a little more attention and finishing would have made all the diference.
3. The fixtures and fittings were tatty ~ sections of secondary double glazing missing, toilet roll holder fell off the wall, basin taps loose, net curtains hanging down, hold backs missing from the curtains.
4. The decorating is tired and desperately needs a freshen up.
5. Pleasant but indifferent bar/reception staff.
6. Distinct shortage of bath towels.
7. Handy bar in the basement but bloomin pricey, not helped by the real ale being stale (lack of punters I guess).

Overall the hotel was 75% of what we expected and obviously a little disappointing.

You can’t help but get the impression that the hotel is suffering financially and teeters on the edge of being a 60’s style B&B rather than the Boutique Hotel it professes to be.

We’ve stayed in worse rooms but not at those prices. I’d go back but only if the Travelodge is full !!

I booked a sea view room at the Granville Hotel. my husband also was very happy with that. We love enjoying a cup of tea and having a look over the sea. and that was amazing. The hotel was clean with very helpful and friendly staff. Delicious breakfast. Alter all, it was comfortable and delighted. Loving staying here and will come back.

We stayed there at the beginning of October in a room at the back of the hotel overlooking the small church. The room was rather cramped and could have done without the very large wicker chair. The bathroom was spacious, no shower but a spa bath, staff friendly, choice of cooked English breakfasts. Hotel not full because of poor weather, I always hope for an upgrade in such circumstances but it seldom happens!
