We have stayed in Brighton on a number of occasions and by far this has to be the best location as it is right on the sea front has the lanes and the pier in spitting distance. There is a lovely sitting area outside with comfy chairs and tables and a fab place to meet up for the evening ahead. Rooms are really nice big and clean and a large clean bathroom. The breakfast was buffet eat as much as you like arrangement with a good choice from a full English to cereals and fruit etc so enough selection for the fussiest of eaters. We used the hotels car park which had a standard evening rate of £23 so about the same for most of Brightons secure car parks. The rooms had coffee and tea making facilities but only 4 small milks and 2 very small biscuits so it wouldn't be a big ask to have some additional milk and a few more biscuits. The biggest negative is the rooms do not have air conditioning but I suppose that is due to the hotels age and it is impossible to have the windows open as t s very noisy in Brighton on a Friday night but what do you expect in such a location. If you want to stay in a nice hotel for a night or two and you are going out on the town then you cannot do better but if you like an early night and a good nights sleep then chose somewhere less busy and quiter.

We went to Brighton for the weekend to visit friends who have moved there. The accommodation was clean and comfortable, we paid £200/night for a double room overlooking the sea, not including breakfast. We didn't sleep all night because of the noise, not only from traffic(it was on the main road) but late night revelers, and a night club playing continual music until 5.30am.
We were not informed of this when we booked but the staff were well aware of the problem as they said there would be extra double glazing installed to these particular rooms in the future . Not a good experience, lovely weekend with friends spoilt by the hotel..

Thank you for your review.

Being at the centre of Brighton we will experiance local vibrancy that occurs from outside the hotel. Parts of the hotel are listed and therefore planning permission is currently being sought again to replace the windows that previously have not been allowed.

PIcked this hotel after reading some good reviews on here, but I wouldn't stay here again as I believe there are several other good hotels that would surely be better than this one.

I only stayed for one night, but was a bit disappointed. Everything was old (as you might have figured out), carpets had big stains, towels had stains, and I didn't really want to walk around the room without socks on.

Bathroom was okay, but curtains and shower curtains was spotty and looked like a few years old. If you want to stay here, you have to be open for the "good old days", cause this hotel stands for nostalgia.

Hopefully they'll start some redecoration soon, it's well needed.

We have stayed here several times, initially with good online offers. It has a fantastic location, and is a real rabbit warren of a place - you can get to many of the rooms via different routes and through differnt corridors and stair cases. All the rooms are differnt shapes, and generally a bit on the worn side - especailly the bathrooms, but clean and well stocked.
We asked for a quiet room and had one on the inside of the building, obviously with no view but it was quiet.
Previously we have stayed with our folding bikes and the staff have been very helpful and allowed us to store them in the room behind the desk.
Breakfast is always very good
We will be back!

Room Tip: Ask for a quiet room if you want one - or a room with a view. We did that once and got a side view...

The mixed reviews here had me a little concerned before I checked in. In general, my stay was very good.
My room was a good size with a very comfortable bed and nice furnishings and amenities. The hotel is perfectly located on theseafront. I did not have any noise issues as I asked for a quiet room at check in. The hotel is currently having what seems like quite an extensive refit and has recently had a new gym with modern equipment installed. I was on the first floor but I think rooms on higher floors have already been refurbed and they were painting the corridors on the 1st floor during my stay.
I would point out some small issues during the stay
1. My room had no air con. The ceiling fan is of limited benefit when the air temperature is already high
2. Hot water availability was intermittent in the bathroom requiring a series of taps to be turned on & off to generate a sufficient flow to get warm water for a shower
3. Breakfast was generally excellent apart from the drinks provided which were of very low quality especially the coffee & orange juine
Staff were all very friendly and helpful and always available without being on top of guests at any time

Room Tip: Ask for a quiet room. Rooms on higher floors have been refurbed

Our first stay at The Old Ship Hotel and overall we were impressed.

We had the newly refurbished Superior room on arrival, which was beautifully decorated throughout. I loved the wall canvases as a finishing touch. A good shower in the bathroom, but this does tend to flood the floor, as it needs a proper seal on the screen. A lovely comfy king-size bed too. These rooms are on the side of the building, so the street noise does travel upwards, but you have to expect noise until the early hours in Brighton I'm afraid. No aircon in the room, but a ceiling fan that does create a nice gentle breeze to sleep under. Window's could have opened more to allow for more breeze to come into the room.

The staff were lovely, from a warm welcome on arrival, to the bar staff serving the front seafront terrace and also Gillian who works on the breakfasts in the morning (she was fab). Buffet style breakfast is really good and a lot of choice. The coffee machines also played music whilst dispensing, fab touch!

The seafront terrace is in such a brilliant position to watch the world go by and enjoy a drink in the sunshine too. The hotel is also in a great position for the pier, shops, night life (gay or straight) and the restaurants.

Great to also see the hotel supporting Gay Pride, with rainbow balloons and flags everywhere.

Overall we were impressed with the hotel and will be back in the future.

Room Tip: Choose a superior room as these are recently renovated, downside is they are on a side street so you...

Thank you for your great review and look forward to welcoming you back again for other weekends too.

It is important that we involve the hotel in the festival and will continue to support this.

New windows are currently in the planning stages with the local authority and once passed should be installed from October.

I look forward to welcoming you back
