We can not fault this hotel. Everything has improved in recent years
Excellent value for money , with high quality service from check in until leaving
The breakfast is always good and service is always with a smile
We stayed in October on a dinner inclusive offer , and upgraded to a sea view room . The standard of accommodation was high, however the noise from young people leaving clubs was terrible , keeping me awake half the night. This isn't the fault of the hotel , but wouldn't book a sea view again
We do love this hotel and are returning in January having booked one of the superior rooms , which isn't on the sea front

Room Tip: Not a seaview room , too much noise from local clubs

Thank you for your review.

I am sorry you were disturbed from people from outside the hotel. All our rooms on the seafront are now double glazed and was disappointed to read this.

Can I take this opportunity to wish you a very happy new year.

Overnight stay including dinner bed and breakfast. First impression on arrival from the car park is poor and unwelcoming. Efficient check in. Room was a sea view upgrade but at the top of the hotel. Room was small but comfortable. Water in the bathroom took at least 10 mins to get hot enough to wash with due to being on the fourth floor. The restaurant and dinner was very average. Because we had a sea view room at the top of the hotel we could hear the wind all night which kept us awake making a sea view room no real upgrade.
However, all of the staff were extremely polite and friendly. The breakfast was particularly good.

Many thanks for your review.

I am sorry the wind caused you an issue during your stay. Being a seafront hotel there is little we can do about the wind particularly during the gales we encountered this week.

Stayed at this lovely hotel for one night whilst in Brighton seeing a show as a treat for my birthday

First impressions lovely polite staff at reception .. room was delightful ..beds so comfy

The Old Ship Hotel is on the sea front so you could here the noise from revellers on the street late at night.. as there are a few bars in the area ..
We were shown around the restaurant by Gillian a very nice lady who was very informative ...the breakfast buffet was fab .. plenty of choice and a very high standard of food
I will look forward to staying her again .. Thank you :-O)

Stayed one night on stopover from Asia on business. Being a Brighton lad I knew the Old Ship anyway (not stayed before though). Old Ship is an older hotel and is full of character - warm & friendly (loving the old-school lift!) and staff are generaly friendly. For Brighton this is good value for money, some minor bathroom updating needed but overall I was happy and would stay here again. Way better & a lot more comfortable than the Thistle next door which is twice the room rate.

I was very disappointed by this hotel.
The location is excellent, right on the sea front in the middle of the two piers (one burnt down of course). The foyer is large and welcoming and the staff are prompt and efficient.
However it is so old and run down. Everything creaks, floors, stairs, beds, the lot. The creaking corridors and stairs are enough to wake a heavy sleeper and the floorboards, well all I can say is you will get to know the habits of the person upstairs.
I had a rear facing room which had the curtains shut when I arrived, clearly to hide the view of the air conditioning units and wall. It's odd that though, as none of the rooms had air conditioning. There was a large fan in my room, but it's not the same, so definitely avoid this hotel in the summer.
My room was large, though dimly lit, but my colleagues reported their rooms were small. There wasn't a great deal of storage in the room so not ideal for a long stay. The room had an ironing board and iron as well as a tea and coffee making facility.
The bathroom was enormous but had an old bath and shower attachment. It's a shame as there was ample room for a shower as well as the bath. The was no extractor fan so it needed the window open to clear the steam. The shower attachment was poor and involved, something I thought and long gone, the shower lottery to try to get something vaguely hot to flow.
The plumbing of the building is clearly old as at 5.30 in the morning I was awoken by loud gurgling from my bath, clearly someone else was showering nearby! But also little things lIke the toilet roll holder being 18 inches off the floor are annoying. Not a deal breaker but annoying all the same.
Trying to find the room was not easy either. There seems to be stairs everywhere and the signing is a bit hit and miss.
The highlight was the breakfast. I was greeted by a very efficient lady who made sure I had everything I needed. The food was good and lots of variety.
I didn't eat in the restaurant during the evening so I can't comment on that.
Overall I would not want to return to this hotel

Room Tip: I would suggest going high and of course book a sea view

Thank you for your review.

The hotel dates back to the 16th century in parts and so is quirky but not straight forward. We dont have uniformity when it comes to the bedroom sizes but we believe this adds to the charm of the hotel.

I am sorry your high expectations were not met

Nice hotel, comfortable room and bed. Good breakfast and friendly staff. But I would never stay here again as we had a sea view room and the noise was awful. Night club just below which went on till 4 am. Thousand of drunk people walking up and down the road all night and taxis driving by and parking up outside the hotel to wait for customers. Sunday morning we finally got to sleep at 5 am when the noise started to die down.£150.00 per night not to get any sleep is not good, when complained to manager we were told "well this is Brighton" fair enough but if we had known it was so noisy we would of opted for a room around the back of hotel. Ver disappointing.
