A little disappointing but still a good boutique hotel

Review of Blanch House
4.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 18 Oct 2017
Stayed here as it is so highly recommended and was, in the end, a little disappointed. The receptionist when we arrived was a little offhand and did not offer a smile, our room was fairly small and had a very cramped bathroom. Very different decoration ! The street is currently closed so access to the hotel to drop bags off is difficult, but staff were very helpful in providing us with a parking permit (for a fee). Breakfast was excellent and the owner was charming when we met him in the morning. The area around the hotel is being upgraded (renovated houses, trendy cafes, shops and restaurants) but there are still shabby areas around the hotel. It's about a 10 minute walk to the Royal Pavilion

Stayed one night mid week in their Perriet Jouet room & from the minute we arrived Kerry the owner and his staff make us feel like long lost friends, this hotel is beautifully decorated, homely and just a few minutes walk to the sea front and into the lanes. There is ample parking in the surrounding area and the hotel provide pay & display resident permits. The room was very comfortable and we loved the lounge / bar area where Kerry knocks up a mean cocktail, we went to the Brighton centre to see a comedy show & called to see if drinks and sandwiches could be put in room upon our return and everything was arranged without any fuss and was delicious, the breakfast was also a fabulous treat... Hearty and plentiful. The hotel was full on the night we stayed, not that you would know as every guest was treated with such wonderful courtesy it was a pleasure staying here, we will certainly book a return visit as this kind of hospitality is few and far between in "boutique hotels" these days, Kerry was such a wonderful host we could have easily stayed several days...... Absolutely recommend this gem of a hotel, give it a try you will not be disappointed !!

Lovely rooms and understanding, caring staff for a visit to Brighton with my elderly parents.
The team went out of their way to help and were very respectful of disabilities.
The breakfasts are superb and we also enjoyed a cocktail at the bar.

I can completely understand why Blanch House is the number 1 hotel in Brighton! The warm welcome; the beautiful decor; the cosy room (Poppy); the friendly owner who took time to get to know us and to do whatever he could to make our stay wonderful; the fabulous breakfast (my husband said it was the best full English he'd had for a long time and my food intolerances were catered for without any problems) all made this stay just perfect. Already recommended to friends and we'll definitely be back to stay.

We stayed at Blanch House for four nights. To be honest I’m a bit nonplussed about the rave reviews here. It was a pleasant enough stay but the room was tiny (hardly anywhere to put suitcases) and the bathroom also. There was a bar just outside our window and at times it was very noisy (though most of this stopped by 11.00). The decor was ordinary. Breakfast was pretty good and best of all the location was excellent. Three stars sums it up for me.

We stayed at Blanch House on one of our B&B stays round the U.K. The staff are very friendly and were happy to help us recommend restaurants even when they were busy. Unfortunately our room ( snowball ) was very small for us as we were traveling from NZ it was hard to unpack our 2 suitcases but I'm sure fine if you don't have luggage and no shelf to unpack your toiletries in the bathroom, suggest maybe a small shelf be installed ?
We did struggle to sleep as there was a terrace bar across from our window that kept us awake till 11pm and the room was quite hot with no air conditioner so we couldn't open the window because of the noise but if you are happy not to have an early night it's no problem at all. Great location to wander into the main attractions in Brighton.

Dear Rebecca
Thank you for taking the time to write a review following your recent stay at our hotel as part of your European travels. I was delighted that you found us to be friendly and helpful and hope you enjoyed your time exploring all that Brighton has to offer.

I was very concerned to read that you struggled to sleep well until after 11pm due to external noise particularly as there is air-conditioning in each of the terrace facing rooms and had you used this with the windows closed you wouldn’t have been disturbed at all. The pub garden is closed each evening by 11pm to avoid any disturbance to both guests and local residents.

I am also sorry to learn that you found the room to be too small for your needs. Sometimes it can be a challenge when travelling with large luggage particularly when staying in a city based Townhouse Hotel - In hindsight, perhaps one of our larger rooms might have been more suitable for you.

We do hope we will have the opportunity of welcoming you back to Blanch House should you be visiting the UK again.

Best wishes,

Luke
