too noisy & too hot

Review of Queens Hotel
3.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 4 Aug 2011
Went for 2 nights with husband and 11 yr old daughter, for a mid week break. Position brilliant for all the attractions and right on sea front. Had a family room which was incredibly spacious to the point of being sparse. Bathroom ok, shower not powerful and tiled floor cracked and grotty. Bed huge but only ok comfort wise. Windows can only open few inches and without air con the room was unbearably hot. Tried opening them as wide as possible but was disturbed from poor sleep by the foul language, shouting, whistling and general cacaphony at 1.30am on a Wednesday morning! Staff ok, daughter loved the little basement pool, breakfast filling but not terribly exciting and parking next door in The Lanes Car park cost us £46 from Tues pm until Thurs am! Wouldn't rush back.

This old hotel right on the beachfront was very charming and as we had a seaview room we really enjoyed it. The room was extremely large and had an ensuite bathroom. The staff were friendly and very helpful. Breakfast was servwed in the restaurant downstairs and was enjoyable.

Room tip: The rooms with a seaview are very nice.

Looks beautiful on the pictures but like many hotels in seaside towns no matter how hard you try to revamp it, if it's not done to the detail, it fails. The rooms are nice. The spa and leisure centre a bit dated. Inside lockers not very claen. Staff helpful. Breakfast ok, not amazing. Not sure it's worth £160 a night.
On the night of arrival (Friday) the TV in the bar was broadcasting a shopping channel... Odd.

Room tip: Make sure you are not getting a room in the smoking 'wing'. It stinks! My friend was put there without having been given the choice.

We stayed here a few nights ago. The hotel is in prime location opposite the Brighton pier. Room we were allocated had seaside views and was fairly large in size. Room was clean and tidy. Bathroom was clean enough but had some mould and grout on floor wasn't the cleanest. Newer bathtubs and the shower was fairly good. Only drawback is the noiseiness from the streets at night, which didn't bother us too much but it may put some people off. We had the buffet brekky the next morning, it was simPle, eggs bacon tomatoes sausages beans, toast and various cereals and pastries. But pretty good. Service was good both at brekky and at rception. The man who served us when we checked in was most. No parking available onsite but 24hour secure car park around the corner at a cost of $23 per day. All in all for the price we paid we couldn't complain about much

Breakfast, not much variety and not enough tables for quantity of people staying there, so had to queue for about 15 minutes. Toast never arrived or refill of coffee!
Bathroom adequate but shower was pathetic! Very noisy hotel inside and out so expect to be woken up all night

Had a great stay at the Queens, clean bedroom and very friendly staff. Breakfast good and plentyful.Would recommend this hotel for short break. Very conveniently situated by the sea and the Lanes. Ate out at 2 very good restaurants Bill's and Fishy Fishy.. The only downside was that the bedroom was very hot so they could do with air con in the bedrooms.
