“weekend in Brighton”
Reviewed 8 April 2013

Stayed here at the weekend, the hotel is brilliantly situtated and it was a good room rate too which included breakfast. As with all large hotels the entrance is all fresh and modern but as you move around the hotel it does look in need of some fresh paint.

My friend and I had booked a twin room which was huge we had a double bed and a single bed. Our room had two windows both overlooked busy streets, one in particular overlooked a nightclub. However, if you want the convenience of stepping out of the hotel into the centre of brighton this is the hotel for you. We both slept soundly and the nightclub didnt affect us at all.

The bathroom was a good size with a bath, which seems a luxury these days. the shower was lovely powerful.

Breakfast in the morning was self service and i would say that it would be better if they gave you a pot of coffee or tea rather than by the cup. But there was plenty of selection and the cooked breakfast was delicious.

the staff were also very helpful and willing to help.

Overall the hotel was clean, warm and comfortable. I slept really well in a very comfortable bed. The room was a good temeprature too.

If you are looking for conveince of being central in brighton with the sea on one side and the town on the other this hotel is for you.

This hotel was all fine - rooms fine, breakfast fine, Gym ok, nice swimming pools, shabby changing rooms. But, we were put in rooms that overlooked 2 nightclubs - needless to say the windows were not double glazed! the noise subsided at 4.30am after all had gone home - and that was a thursday night. We mentioned this to the hotel who asked if we had asked to be moved well it wasn't till gone midnight when the noise really started - and we thought it to late in the day/night to ask to be moved by then. I do however wish we had! - if they knew it would be noisy why didn't they just put us in different rooms the hotel was not busy. We mentioned it to reception the next morning who said oh dear - and I have emailed them since we got home - and no response.

Room Tip: If they offer rooms 115/116 - say no unless you will be out clubbing all night too.......

We have stayed at The Queens 3 times previous to our stay this year and have always had a sea view room and never had any concerns but this year we stayed there for 2 nights in March this year and ended up with a room at the back and the noise from the night club opposite went on until 3am with people shouting and screaming, we could not move room as the hotel was full so in future we will always book a sea view room because we would go back as the staff are very friendly and the breakfast is excellent with the choice of buffet continental and full English,( Yum Yum). Every room we have stayed in has been very clean and in good condition. Would highly recommend this hotel for location to all attractions and the great Lanes for shopping or a relaxing meal. Great hotel and town.

Room Tip: Always go for a sea view room, it may cost a bit more but you'll sleep soundly.

Stayed there on weekdays which are not really busy for Brighton in general. The hotel could not be any closer to Brighton Pier and Sealife Center. The building is old but well preserved. I would describe it as very friendly and welcoming. The spa/gym was undergoing refurbishment at the time of my visit so i only got to jump in the pool once when i first arrived but the management had made arrangements for the other days when it was closed. Pool was a little bit cold according to my girlfriend though. The family room which we upgraded to for £20/night was totally worth it. Massive family room with 1 king and 1 double bed and a little lounge with 2 mini sofas, chairs, coffee table and dresser table plus 2 wardrobes. Bathroom was really nice with a spacious bathtub. All staff was really friendly apart from a barman who told my gilrfriend that Pink Gin is not a cocktail for women when she asked for it. I really enjoyed my stay there and i would definetely go again since it is considerably better value for money than the 4star hotels on the beach.

Room Tip: Family rooms with sea view are really worth the extra cost.

Myself and my friend found ourselves unexpectedly in Brighton two weeks ago and decided to treat ourselves to a spa hotel. After a quick google search we found the Queens hotel called and made a last minute booking in the Tower 2 suite for £250 (no small amount of money to us). We made our way over to the hotel and alarm bells were instantly ringing when we entered the somewhat outdated and a little shabby lobby. We checked in and were assigned our keys to the Tower Suite. What we found there was beyond surprising. A freezing cold bleak and shabby room which quite honestly reminded me of the budget travel lodge rooms I have stayed on on business trips. The room came with NO added luxuries at all- no robes, two plastic wrapped digestive biscuits, 1 mini bottle of generic shampoo and moisturiser and having run my hands over the sheets they were scratchy and starched. The bathroom was ice cold the waste paper baskets un-emptied a pretty grubby 'jacuzzi bath' and the sofas in the main room were shabby and a bit dirty. All in all pretty horrifying when you have decided to blow that amount of money for a bit of Luxury. After an approximately 60 minute search looking for elsewhere to stay we stumbled upon the Kemp Townhouse at £135 for a King Standard (suffice to say it was one of the most luxurious and wonderful nights stays I've ever had). We called down to the front room and advised them we would be checking out and were told we would have a full refund. Upon arriving at the desk we were offered a 50% refund as we had been in the room for an hour. We have explained in person on the phone and in writing that we were building up the courage to a. make the complaint and leave and b. finding somewhere else to stay on a freezing evening in Brighton yet the hotel refuse to fully reimburse us. The room I could probably forgive as I'm sure the hotel is great for a budget night but to be so resolutely refused £125 of our hard earned money on a room we did no more than sit on the sofas in for an hour is beyond belief. I can assure you there are an abundance of reasonably priced budget hotels in Brighton with better decor, more luxurious extras and overall a much higher level of customer care. Avoid avoid avoid!!!

The queens hotel is a massive and old establishment, that probably was a very good hotel, but now, needs an urgent refurbishment.

We booked a tower suite: supposedly, one of the best in the hotel, but we found a huge room with scattered old furnitures. The charmless room I've ever stayed.

Special mention deserves the bathroom: is impossible to get a worse way to distribute the pieces: with more than 100 sqft, the toilet is located in a place where you barely can sit on it!

Last, but not least, the room was very noisy due to the traffic and to a close nightclub.

We stayed a Friday and Saturday night in one of the large family suites, with lounge, bedroom, hallway and bathroom. We liked the size of the rooms the bedroom was big enough for a king size bed, plus wardrobes, chairs, dressing table etc. The lounge had another king, single, plus we fitted in two cots. All rooms had high ceilings and superb views of promenade and sea. Breakfast was included, and the staff were very relaxed when each morning our 16 month old twin boys threw most of their buffet on the floor. The pool was fine but a bit chilly for very small children. We were really happy with this hotel and would stay again, we've awarded four stars not five because the stay on the Saturday night was very expensive, and the food available and times in the hotel was limited. Overall very satisfied.

Room Tip: Most family suites have some sort of sea views, but check in advance.
