“Expensive for what the hotel is”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 24 November 2013

I paid £189 for a double room with sea view. I was expecting a very nice hotel for the price I paid but unfortunately it wasn't the case. It's in need of some maintenance and I know it's only 3 stars but the price they charge should have a decent enough furniture. First thing is pleas sort out the leather sofa on the entrance which is falling apart.

Staff were excellent but it's definatly not worth the pirce I paid for. The pool is very small and overall the pictures that you see on the website are not how the hotel really is. My main point is it's not worth the £189 for the quality of the room and hotel. For an £89 hotel room then you got nothing to complain about.

My boyfriend & I stayed at the hotel 23rd November for one night, we had room 211.
From the moment we arrived, every member of staff, greeted us with a smile and said hello. Checking-in was very quick and reception staff very helpful. We stayed in room 211, beautiful view over looking the pier. Our room was very spacious and inviting, and nice & cosy for a chilli November night. Bed was very comfortable, room had iron & ironing board, hair dryer & tea & coffee.
We had several drinks in the hotel bar, the bar staff were very welcoming and knowledgable regarding local amenities. The bar held a very pleasant atmosphere and also had good views across the beach.
We arrived a little late for breakfast but the staff managed to cater for our needs. We had a filling breakfast and there was plenty of choice.
We both really enjoyed our stay. Thanks Queens Hotel Brighton x

For the £170 we paid for a double room, we would have expected a good night's sleep. Regrettably, the Queens Hotel doesn't see fit to mention that it overlooks a row of bars and nightclubs - nor does it accommodate for this with adequate soundproofing. The windows are old, gappy, crafty and don't keep the noise out at all. The noise level was reminiscent of camping at a festival, rather than a premium rate hotel.

Night manager was apologetic but couldn't do anything to help. Extremely frustrating. It's clear they get a lot of these complaints having done some more research. Management's line seems to be "it's an old building so there's not a lot we can do." But refitting the windows with appropriate quality glazing and frames would be a start!

Thank you for your review on TripAdvisor.
I am happy to say that we have already worked on upgrading a lot of our windows , and we shall continue to do so where possible.
as a listed building we have to work within restrictions to improve our windows.

I stayed at this hotel for 1 night. I went to see Jessie J at the Brighton Centre and was very excited. The decor is brilliant. I loved it.
After having a lot of fun at the concert, me and my autistic sister went back to the hotel is get some sleep. Except we had none. We were directly on top of a nightclub, the windows are so thin it sounded like our windows were open (we checked countless times.) The walls were very thin and could hear drunk men threatening each others lives next door.
The only thing this hotel had going for it was the decor and the location next to the sea.
Although the staff seemed used to these complaints and gave us £25 back.
Not going back.

Room Tip: Seafront rooms are most probably quieter.

Stayed here for the weekend with a friend and had no problems. I do agree with other reviews that it is a bit tired but we had a comfortable stay.

Plus Points: upgrade to seafront room, cosy, good size and not too noisy. Great location and handy for car parking. Friendly staff.

Negative Points: cracked bathroom tile which you could easily cut your foot on. Breakfast was okay. Took advice from other reviewers and was there for 8am both mornings. There weren't any fried eggs which I was a bit disappointed at as I don't like scrambled.

I would stay here again as basically it's somewhere to sleep, with a spa if needed which we didn't use but will in future. Not everyone's cup of tea but served as a girls weekend away hotel.

My daughter and I shared a room, which was lovely and big, clean etc however we struggled to sleep as they had out us right outside a nightclub which went on to the early hours of the morning. I was cross as I had a long conversation before booking to ensure it was suitable for children etc if you go without children and you dot mind the noise then this is a nice average hotel, the gym and swimming pool though leave a lot to the imagination, again not suitable for children. Breakfast was adequate.

Room Tip: ask for one backing onto the main road - although you will have the noise of the traffic - but this...

Thank you for your review on TripAdvisor.
I must apologise for your expectations not have been met in some aspects of your stay.
We of course are indeed a very family friendly hotel , with our large family suites , indoor heated pool , proximity to the pier and amusements , discounted tickets to the Sealife Centre , and of course Brighton Beach across the road.
However , as we are centrally located , there can be occasions when the noise from other venues can sometimes intrude.

Friendly, comfortable hotel on the sea front. Real sea views out to the pier and just yards from the famous Lanes.
Good breakfast, large beds and clean. We Will come back next year but out of season again as the hotel is in a very busy part of Brighton.
