“Good value for the dinner and breakfast deal.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 20 February 2012

We stayed for one night and stayed in the Dark Star room. The hotel is in a decent location although a fair way from the car park - but we knew that when we booked.

I would describe our room as average. There were marks throughout the room, it could do with a lick of paint, and multiple carpet stains. Also fag butts littered the plant pots outside our door. The room was quiet although could not keep out the noise of the seagulls!! No view to speak of but we were ok with that. Great shower.

We ate in the bistro in the evening and had a very nice meal. The offer allowed us three courses from the a la carte menu and the food was very good and the service great. The wine list is extensive but certainly not cheap.

Breakfast was great, good quality ingredients and service was great.

Overall if we're going back to Brighton we would probably stay there again but only at the price we paid.

I have stayed here twice and I love it. This time was for a 50th birthday. Our bedroom was gorgeous - not huge - but very comfortable with a fabulous bathroom and access to a lovely little roof terrace. The bed was so wonderfully comfortable that getting up - particularly after a good night - almost impossible! I loved the bar and indeed our host laid on a fantastic champagne reception on the first floor. The staff were fabulous and the canapes and champagne absolutely delicious. Dinner was served in a private dining room next to the main dining room. It was overwhelmingly good as was breakfast next day. All in all I can thoroughly recommend this hotel.

Stayed here with my boyfriend For a night on 27 Jan on a dinner, bed and breakfast deal booked by my boss as a leaving present. The room was lovely and spacious (we stayed in the Gracia de Chille room), the bathroom a good size with free standing bath and hidden monsoon shower, the bed was huge and one of the most comfortable beds I have ever slept in.
However... As part of the DB&B deal you get dinner, but are responsible for paying for any drinks and service charge. We bought a modest bottle of rose wine, my boyfriend had a coffee to finish off dinner and afterwards we retreated to the bar for a beer and a cocktail. When it came to checking out we were faced with a bill for £75. I have absolutely no problem with paying for drinks etc and it really is one of the best hotels i have stayed at, but this deal was booked for me and I had not seen any any t&cs to read, not were the details obvious on the website and nor did the reception, restaurant or bar staff explain what was included in the deal. I had a suspicion that we may have had to contribute so we were not extravagant however it would be easy to get carried away as the drinks were good and the setting (dark comfy sofas in the bar area) make you want to stay.
That said, £75 was a lot but as the room was £185 (dutifully paid for by my boss) I can't really moan!
A lovely hotel that I will definitely recommend to friends. Another tip - park in the NCP on Russell Road and tell the hotel staff. When you check out they will give you a discount card for 25% off the car park bill.

My husband and I have stayed at the Du Vin twice now and have never been dissapointed. Both times we have had very quiet rooms out the back of the hotel. The beds are very comfortable and the rooms are always spotless. The food is also very good too. Also a great location for shopping in the day and bars and restuarants in the evening. Hoping to return soon.

Lovely room, great food, friendly helpful staff offering good service. I was slightly concerned when our room seemed to be over the pub but the sound proofing was excellent and we did not hear a thing!

Thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would recommend. Hope to return soon

There is nothing wrong with this hotel apart from the lack of a lift! This should be pointed out on the web site as it was difficult to access the room via the stairs! The checking in was slow because they did not have our confirmed booking on their system. We were told to go and take a seat while they sorted out the problem. When we came to checking out there was still a problem as they hadn't updated their system so they attempted to charge us the wrong rate. All of this is frustrating and makes what should be a memorable occasion memorable but for the wrong reasons. On a positive note, the room was adequate although the air conditioning was noisy. The bed was very comfortable and the room was quiet. The best thing was the shower which was very good with plenty of hot water with the right pressure.

I always enjoy staying in the Hotel du Vin and this visit was no exception. We booked one of the deals on offer which gave us a reduced room rate so long as we spent more than £75 dining in the restaurant. The place has a great feel about it. We were escorted to our room by the very amiable lady on reception. The rooms have good-sized beds, all the facilities you need including a Nespresso coffee maker. Bathrooms are spacious, have great showers and baths big enough for two if saving scarce resources is part of your plans! The bar is incredibly well-stocked and reception areas are great for pre & post dinner drinks.

The only down side was that the local seagulls had choir practise early am but this has happened in other hotels we've stayed at in Brighton. Luck of the draw unfortunately.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Hotel du Vin Brighton is situated in the Lanes conservation area, a pebbles' throw from the seafront. Its 49 bedrooms are housed in a collection of eccentric Gothic revival and mock Tudor buildings erected, appropriately by a wine merchant on the site of an old inn. Among many interesting features are a heavily carved staircase and bizarre gargoyles, while the original double-height hall now houses the wine bar and Laroche tasting room. The perfect venue for a picturesque wedding or party is the impressively large and airy Dome room. For the best tankered of local ale, Pub du Vin is one of Brighton city center's treasures with its classic pub dining. Out with the Brighton hotel is the wonder and inspiring town itself, with quaint streets dotted with fabulous shops, and of course the famous pier and promenade. ... more   less
